The holocaust is undoubtably the hardest subject to make a compelling film about that doesn't cheapen the event, but Jonathan Glazer was able the accomplish that near impossible feat. Mulholland Drive has always been one of my favorite movies and one of three movies that I think encapsulates Lynch’s career best (along with Eraserhead and Blue Velvet. The beauty of the visual, the visceral emotions, and the perfect flow of the dreamlike storyline are all top tier and make it immediately clear it’s one of Lynch’s best. Luca Guadagnino yet again continues to solidify himself as one of the greatest living directors. He's not afraid to completely change styles from one film to the next and this is one of his biggest departures from his previous styles. It's a bold, stylized portrait of being gay in the early 20th centaury, then slowly delves into the consequences of love and human nature.
