This is Gaspar Noé doing what he does best—making you feel deeply uncomfortable but unable to look away. The zoom-in, zoom-out camera technique feels like a horror movie jumpscare, but instead of ghosts, you’re haunted by pure dread and nihilism. Honestly, I felt so nauseous watching this. Some of the visuals are just straight-up evil. But underneath all that darkness, the film really hammers in how violence, morality, and justice in Paris were completely crumbling at the time.
And that one scene where he’s watching porn alone in the cinema? I FELT THAT. Lol. Noé, you’re such a freak—respectfully.
