paul king decided to refer to this movie as a "confection" in the opening credits, and that's exactly what it is. super sweet, super fluffy, but nothing underneath, nothing that fills you up
timothee has charm, but it isn't a very charismatic or magnetic charm. polar opposite to his charm in Bones and All or Little Women. there's something facade-esque to his acting, his singing, his dancing- i'm not sure what it is, but there's just something so surface level to it
the music in the movie felt so processed, so bland, no tunes got stuck in my head, nothing made me feel like singing along, not even pure imagination at the end (not that i ever really liked pure imagination, it still gets stuck in your head!)
the production design was pretty okay, but none of it felt very tactile or worthwhile, noteworthy
i think this movie was just a huge swing, and a huge miss. sad to say i'm a little disappointed, i really wanted to be whimsied by this. but alas. they milked a giraffe
