Henry’s review published on Letterboxd:
A refreshingly human tale set against the backdrop of a sickeningly inhumane landscape.
Absolutey deranged and outright b-a-n-a-n-a-s level filmmaking, and yet it succeeds and excels on all levels.
Ultimately it's about hope -- uncovering what hope means, seeking hope, creating hope. In this way it's quite spiritual -- our characters each calling out to a God in a seemingly godless world.
It's also unabashedly empathetic to the weak and disadvantaged, positing that teamwork and justice reign supreme over anarchic power imbalances. It creates and employs the hope which the characters seek onto the audience through the liberation and triumph of their own internal collaboration and bravery.
Also quite possibly (most probably) the greatest 'action film' made yet, though it elevates itself beyond this categorisation by constantly innovating and defying its own expectations and parameters while still remaining mythic in terms of scale and overall conceit.
If this isn't a masterpiece and one of our great 21st-century excersises in stylish, bombastic, and thoughtful movie-making, I don't know what is.
