This feels different. In a way it's abnormal. But what is this "normal" all about. The Stimming Pool does not try to find the answer, but in a sense manages to achieve a fresh perception of an outsider experience. Neurodiversity is given a language through a mishmash of fantasy sequences and behind-the-scenes conversations.

The "autistic" aspect is fine, but this film really flows when it comes to finding an alternate narrative mode. This is neither an apology nor a celebration; it is simply a perceptive insight.

    David Byrne's American Utopia

David Byrne is an introvert messiah with a hell of a groove.

The premise itself - looking at the untold story of what happens in the background of the scene - is thought-provoking. It is certainly interesting to follow this unknown face that becomes increasingly recognisable. However, that's about it. No questions are posed and I'm left in cerebral wondering mode.

That cat certainly was the least phony character in this movie. Justice for "Cat"!

Even if it doesn't quite get to a satisfying dénouement, Forman gets the most out of low-key insanity/burnout/nervous breakdown. Miss Ratched's eyes as she changes from affective worker, to scolding, to tormenting is fascinating.

What I think this movie lacks is a way more confounded narrative perspective instead of drifting into cinéma vérité. Maybe it should have taken its pills instead of giving them all to Frederickson.

  • Lilo & Stitch

Weird, flawed characters, speculative sci-fi mood, a reasonable duration and a plot that stays on track. Quite good, I must say.

A wild journey towards reconciliation. The passing of time, war/peace, the Freudian subconscious. Miyazaki throws everything into the mix and it's at time difficult to make sense of it all; flows better when it genuinely stops making sense.

Marvelous, vibrant animation, rich symbolism and a naïve yet powerful core - peak French jazzy cinema.

In this simulation we all listen to Sort Sol and only Sort Sol...except for The Sandmen...we listen to The Sandmen too.

This film brilliantly shows how verbally impaired all the characters are. They don't have a language for communicating sufficiently about their feelings, desires, grief etc. That wordless, yet tense silence is beautifully captured.
