In an attempt to show how issues with Title IX persisted, and a lack of reformed response to how colleges respond to sexual assault cases, reporters Asia Fields and Taylor Blatchford connected with sexual assault survivors on different college campuses throughout Washington. In this lightning chat, we talk about best practices for gathering stories from your audience, how to build trust, and why covering divisive political issues through personal narratives is a good idea. The 2020 Election Roundtable was composed of twenty-four diverse voters from Pennsylvania. These individuals participated in a series of six open, virtual conversations about what is important to them. The prompt for each conversation was often inspired by the day’s news. CapRadio spent a year listening and learning about Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood which came to prominence as the place where police shot and killed Stephon Clark. Reckon Women promotes dialogue around women’s issues in the South by sharing news articles and asking open-ended questions to invite discussion. This playbook for leaders and journalists at public media stations is a practical exploration of how public media newsrooms can better engage with and amplify the voices of their local communities. America Amplified partnered with eight journalism collaborations across the country encompassing more than 50 public radio stations.
