Amphibia (-orum, n.) (ex Graecis amphi- 'ambobus lateribus' + bios 'vita'), sunt classis animalium ectothermicorum, sicut ranae, bufones, Salamandroidea, et Gymnophiona, quae ex forma iuvenili aquam spiranti commutantur aut in formam adultam aerem spirantem, aut in formam paedomorphorum, quae nonnullas proprietates iuveniles retinet.

Nomen amphibiorum a Carolo Linnaeo anno 1758 excogitatum est. Scientia quae amphibiis reptilibusque studet herpetologia appellatur.
