The novel opens with the Dust trying to worm money out of his party members, utilizing token flattery to no avail. Ensuing banter between the two reveals a curiosity: Taylor, the unofficial party leader, is nowhere to be found, something uncharacteristic of one of the only two responsible people in the party, and it is disclosed that he's been meeting with a girl recently. The two men present, baffled by this revelation, begin to panic and complain, wondering how the man they see as inflexible and stiff has "had spring come upon him." While they muse as to how they don't have girlfriends, the others in the guild begin badmouthing the two, citing their various transgressions. As it reaches a crescendo, Dust quickly changes the subject to who Taylor is seeing and begins to gather information on her. To this effect, he tricks the easily manipulatable Yunyun into revealing information about the girl, citing concern that Taylor might be being "led on," and subsequently learns that his target is a newbie adventurer who got cold feet about the profession and that, after being saved by Taylor, formed a pseudo-student-teacher relationship with him. Speculating that she might have fallen for him, Yunyun proceeds reveal that the adventurer was quite beautiful, prompting Dust to angrily click his tongue and look for Taylor, the Crimson Demon in tow.
Quickly learning of his party member's whereabouts, the two make there way over to that location and hide, watching as Taylor continues to educate the girl. However, in stark contrast to his normally stoic, hard-headed self, awkward, romantic tension fills the air as the two converse. Disgusted by this, Dust plans to run out and slander his friend but is quickly stopped by Yunyun, and the duo lose the former two as a result.
Back in town they're nowhere to be seen, but by a stroke of sheer luck Dust is able to learn some possibly-indicting information regarding the black-haired beauty; a shopkeeper describes how she had come in selling large amounts of equipment, from weapons to rings to armor, and that, while he had his suspicions at first, he took the items when the girl produced a seemingly legitimate guild card. Deciding to visit the local casino, Dust leaves the shop. When he arrives, the proprietor of the establishment states that there was indeed someone matching the description the shopkeep gave: a beautiful, seductive cardshark who offered herself to anyone who could beat her but who beat every single challenger she had, as well as a con artist who plead for money for her dying, ill sister. Yunyun asks if they should tell Taylor, but Dust instead decides to solve the problem in a roundabout way.
Disguising himself as an old fortune teller, he sets up shop along a road the woman frequently visits and waits for her to pass; when she does, she gives off an aura of seductiveness in strict opposition to the sunny and bright one emitted around Taylor. Dust quickly beckons her over, and it's quickly revealed that Vanir is feeding him information using his powers of foresight. Intentionally, Dust tricks her into thinking he is the friend of someone she had deceived and, dismissing him and turning to leave, is left with the cryptic line to watch out when the earth rumbles and it rains when it is clear. As she walks off. Megumin's daily explosion rocks the city, causing the ground to shake, and her face pales as she remembers the quote. Dust makes a signal, and in an instant, a large amount of Gelatinous Slime is splashed on her by Yunyun and Keith, causing her to look up in apprehensive confusion at the clear skies above. With the help of a large number of people wronged by her, Dust continues to make the seductresses' life miserable as the day wears on, and she turns in early at the high-class hotel she's staying at as a result, but even that is not safe as Lolisa is enlisted to give her nightmares. The next day, she comes back to Dust, who proceeds to divine that in order to cancel out the bad luck she's received, she needs to head to Wiz's Shop and buy the item the latter recommends. She does so but at an exorbitant price and, sighing, contemplates whether or not it's time to head back to Elroad.
A few days later, Taylor is with the group. Dust, pretending not to know about his "student," asks about the girl, and Taylor states that she's gone back to her homeland to tend to her sick mother. All's not well, however, when Taylor reveals he gave her all his money after she "used up all [her own] buying her equipment," but as a result the party decides to finally get a quest for the first time in a while.

It starts off with Dust doing a glorified introduction of himself at a mirror, before Rin, Keith, and Taylor quips at him, who then gets punched by the annoyed wizard.
Following a night of drinking that was paid by Kazuma, Dust wakes up late next day where he squabbles with his companions about being good friends with the rich. Wanting to find a rewarding quest because he lost at gambling the previous day, Dust hears about Luna offering a quest against masked golems at Khiel's Dungeon, yet his companions all head to do other things. As he frets over them, Dust spies Yunyun grumbling at Megumin whose presence scared off other adventurers at the Guild wanting to team up with her for the dungeon quest, before stopping the irate Megumin from tearing at Yunyun's breasts so his debt with the loner won't get called. Hearing about how Megumin's companions are off doing something else instead of questing at Khiel's Dungeon, Dust offers to team up with them.
He and Yunyun head for Wiz's Shop to ask Vanir who is assisted by the Loli Succubus about the golems, and get told about how he used the hidden chambers in the dungeon for storing Wiz's junk, such as magic items for mimicking the voices and appearances of random acquainted people, though the Vanir Dolls left to guard them had recently malfunctioned. On their way back to the Guild, Dust upon hearing how Yunyun and Lolisa are willing to work for free wants to ditch Megumin, though the explosion maniac who was the one signing up for the quest hears him. He then cites himself being mistaken for a Dragon Knight to explain Lolisa's similarity to a Succubus Megumin remembered seeing once, following which the Succubus invites the returning Rin to join their quest.
The five of them make it to Khiel's Dungeon, after a string of battles with monsters attracted by the Explosion Megumin had cast on some Giant Toads outside town, though Dust who is carrying Megumin gets strangled when commenting on her small breasts that won't grow bigger, like those of Rin and Lolisa to their vexation. They subsequently enter the dungeon with the crater from Megumin's Explosion on Vanir still outside, and are surprised to be approaced by Darkness, Aqua, and Luna wearing Vanir's masks, which Yunyun soon identifies to be golems crafted by Vanir. Initially delighted at the chance to sexually harass the big breasted monsters, Dust after being shamed by the girls tries talking to the dolls. The Darkness golems saying perverted things, the Aqua golem belittling Vanir, and the Luna golem complaining about her inability to marry respectively answer back in the voices of Yunyun, Lolisa, and Rin, to the distress of the voices' owners.
When Megumin detects two magic powers in each golem, a Kazuma golem speaking in her voice appears, and distresses her with its death scream when Dust defeats the male-looking golem. Discovering two magic items from the golem's clay remains, Dust figures out that the Vanir Dolls posted as sentries had taken the ones that mimic voices and appearances. Rin and Yunyun proceed to shatter the three golems, only to have an army of Darkness golems approach while uttering various words of perversions in all four girls' voices. Dust gets seduced by one of them into letting it hug him only for it to self-detonate, so the girls fight the remainder from a distance while ignoring his whining from the floor.
They are next set upon by golems in the form of other Succubi, which Dust restrains himself from touching, especially when they seduce him in the voice of Vanir, though he also has to restrain Lolisa from approaching while Rin and Yunyun destroy the golems. The two of them then frantically blast at a group of golems taking the form of Dust, and the real Dust who hugs Rin to prove himself a human gets zapped as well.
Reaching Khiel's chamber, they find a huge talking ball with limbs that is the combination of Vanir's dolls and many magic items. Since it instantly regenerates from magical attacks, the five of them flee for the exit when it chases them, with Dust refusing to sacrifice himself for the girls' escape. The ball however casts magic to generate a wall outside that traps them before it approaches with weapons in hand, so Dust blocks its attacks with his real skills while Rin and Yunyun concentrate their power into one powerful lightning, yet the unscathed ball retaliates and wounds Dust when he covers for Rin.
Just as Dust is about to be killed, he is saved by Taylor who arrives with Keith and Kazuma. Kazuma subsequently asks Yunyun to blow a hole in the wall for Keith and Taylor to lure the ball through, before instructing Rin to cut off its limbs. The ball accordingly rolls into the crater, where Megumin who is recharged by Kazuma casts Explosion into, yet in the dust cloud Dust sees it regenerating again. At this moment, Dust notices a spear stuck on a tree that he asks Lolisa to retrieve, before leaving her behind so he can without anybody seeing use it for impaling the fused mass of magic items within the ball that got exposed by the explosion.
All of them later drink to celebrate at the Guild, where Kazuma explains how he had a bad feeling upon hearing Dust taking the girls out for a quest, then along with Dust tells a jealous Keith how troublesome the girls surrounding them are. But when they discuss the quest rewards, Vanir who had posted the quest comes to clarify that huge reparations will be charged for damages to the magic items, prompting the others to cut connections with the quest and leave only Megumin and Dust liable. Kazuma proceeds to pay for Megumin's bill, while Dust trying to borrow around for money without success regrets working.
