What’s open and what’s closed over the holidays
The holidays are here and many businesses, services and public transit in Waterloo Region have changed their hours of operation.
Here’s a quick list of what’s open, what’s closed, and what’s changing between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Open
Curbside waste collection – No curbside waste collection on Wednesday Dec. 25 or Wednesday Jan. 1. During these two weeks your collection day moves by one day. Wednesday waste will be collected on Thursday.
Region of Waterloo International Airport – Flights are not affected
Closed
Canada Post – No deliveries on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1, most post offices will also be closed
Banks – Dec. 25, Jan. 1 (please see your bank for specific changes)
Cambridge and Waterloo Transfer Stations will be closed for residential access on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
Regional Administrative Offices – Closed Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
Kitchener Community Centres – Closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
Public Health Clinics – Closed December 25, 26 and January 1
Kitchener Public Libraries – Closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

Changes
Most grocery stores and pharmacies are operating on modified hours between Dec. 24 and Jan. 2, and many will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Check your local store for details.
Grand River Transit
Grand River Transit will be on winter holiday service between Dec. 23 and Jan. 5.
Christmas Day/Dec. 25:
- LRT Route 301 – Service every 30 minutes until 8 p.m.
- Routes 7, 51, 201, 302 - Service every 30 minutes until 6 p.m.
- Routes 1, 6, 8, 12, 50, 53, 61, 65, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206: Service every 60 minutes until 6 p.m.
- No service on the following bus routes: 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 55, 56, 57, 58, 60, 62, 63, 67, 76, 77, 78, 91 and 110.
- All MobilityPLUS subscription trips will be cancelled.
Boxing Day/Dec. 26:
- Holiday service on all routes.
- The 302 ION bus will run on a Saturday schedule.
- No service on the following bus routes: 3, 4, 5, 14, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 29, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 57, 60, 62, 67, 76, 77, 78, 91 and 110.
New Year’s Eve/Dec. 31:
- Extended service on routes 7, 8, 12, 51, 53, 61, 201, 202, 204, 205, 206 and the 302 ION bus.
- Route 301 ION light rail: last trains depart Conestoga Station at 12:10 a.m. and Fairway Station at 1 a.m.
New Year's Day/Jan. 1:
- Holiday service on all routes.
- No service on the following bus routes: 3, 4, 5, 14, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 29, 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 57, 60, 62, 67, 76, 77, 78, 91 and 110.
- All MobilityPLUS subscription trips will be cancelled.
Conestoga Mall
- Dec. 24 – Closes at 5 p.m.

Select stores will open on Dec. 24 and 26 with reduced hours.
