#reverb10, day 12: Body Integration

Yesterday’s prompt:

Body integration. This year, when did you feel the most integrated with your body? Did you have a moment where there wasn’t mind and body, but simply a cohesive YOU, alive and present?

As I’m awfully pressed for time right now, I’m afraid this post is going to be short and sweet. And super-obvious:

Running. In the last six months I started running again, after nearly 5 years. I’d exercised in the meantime, of course: lots of walking, elliptical machines, and so forth. But nothing, nothing produces the same quality of endorphins for me as running. And nothing gets me more focused in the moment, on what I’m doing right now, than running does. It’s partially about the difficulty — it takes seriously non-trivial effort to keep myself going, and that drives everything else into the background. But it’s partially about the radical shift between mind and body from my usual day-to-day life — who’s doing the driving, and who’s being taken along for the ride.

I fell back off the running about three weeks ago. I’m honestly not sure what happened. But I’m bringing running stuff with me on my holiday travels, and am hoping to get myself back to it.
