Defend your ice castle from evil gnomes who want to take the ice cubes for their beverages.

Use the mouse to opperate the cannon! If you run out of ice cubes you loose

(the game will keep running, but just pretend you loose, and close out the window to restart)

See how long you can survive!

(survival timer provided seperately, but your computer comes with one!)

Made for the 0 hour jam, where you make a game during the hour of the daylight savings time switch.

Because the rules specifically stated that there were no rules, I opted to make my game during my lunch hour.

Only outside asset was a sprite sheet I made for someone else who never used it. I have attached it. Feel free to use it. Creative Commons. No credit needed.

Instructions:

Press the mouse to aim and charge the cannon. Release the mouse to shoot.

Post Mortem:

I recorded my development, so if anyone wants to see a rushed, person flailing on a keyboard, check it out here: (1) One Hour Game Jam - YouTube

You will see that I got tripped up on animating, and rotating the cannon before just giving up, and moving on. The couple of scripts you see me start with are some common ones from my library, which do snapping to the grid in the inspector, animations, and making an object persistent, but I only wound up using the first one.

  • I had written out a little plan for it but did not manage to complete everything. If I had a second hour I would have liked to:
rotate the cannon to point at the mouse
  • spruce up the cannon ball image
  • have a game end condition (end of wave, or no more blocks)
  • make the clouds float
  • animate the enemies
  • show a window with your stats, whether you won or lost, and include a restart button.

Post Post Mortem:

I spent another hour and basically accomplished the above items. Now that the jam is over, I have updated the web build with the finished version. If you want to see what it was like with only one hour, the original desktop version is available, or watch the end of my YouTube video

Unzip and run.

The "two hour version" file has the bug fixes, and the content I wanted. Don't judge this for the jam.

Where is it attached?

I'm glad you liked it!

The sprite sheet is the only image on this game page

Also! Just wanted to say I basically learned Unity by watching your video and have recommended it to others! (see https://za3k.com/hackaday 2022 if you're curious)

That's awesome! Glad I could help.

I debated about speeding up the video or not. I'm glad I didn't now.

I have moved on to Godot. Maybe I should do the same in that.
