I feel getting the living guts 2 or 3 times is a must to really beat the last bosses. I end up saving my nightshades or gunpowders for the 1st then final boss.
Plus getting the fossil always helps...
The only sortof bug i found is that the ability to spare monsters close to death should open a unique dialogue with the fossil, as sparing the fossil this way does not recruit them, even if getting to 1 health.
Also, getting the knife before finding the hanged man (before 30 skin, as after 30 the frogs sell different items), is very difficult (and pointless for future characters as it replaces good weapons). I had to do 3 unique playthroughs just to cut down the hanged man, before realizing all it did was give the item without losing health.
I was fully expecting cutting him down to give a special reward or unlock a new character or helper...
That would be cool considering just how difficult it is to cut him down...
Though, if i wanted to sound like an ass, i could mention how any knife should be enough to cut him down... I had to, sorry ...
Perhaps you could try to shoot him down too (With a chance you hit him, getting only blood fragments, and remove him for the rest of the playthrough)
To balance the final character, perhaps she should be allowed to cut down the hanged man with her regular weapon, as she would never replace it for a knife. Also, the lighter was one of the last items i used, so perhaps it could grant a reward AND several cigarettes. Since i noticed you only really find cigarettes in the 1st half of a run and only get to use them on 1 enemy or boss (As using only 1 or two rarely helps). As such you are unlikely to have any for the 2nd half. Having a small and secret way to get a couple would help, those who actively seek them, such as by using the lighter.
Thanks for your detailed feedback! The lighter has already been buffed for the next release, and now it does exactly what you suggested (it will also be clearer how to use it)! As for the hanged man event, I'll work on balancing it better!
It means the world to hear mine and your thoughts on the lighter seemed to be in line.
It took the longest time for me to use it for the first time...
Plus... More Cigarettes, Lol - Always cool.
Also, i feel the long gilled fish is one of the most unique NPCs i have ever encountered in a game.
For my next Project ill work on a Pixel Art Characters and Sprites Asset Pack - " Dark and Bloody Edition"
As a nod to your title!
I still wonder just what exactly are blood fragments...
It reminds me of my favorite browser game, Kingdom of Loathing, where the currency is Meat.
Combining a 100 makes a meat stack, a 1000 makes a dense meat stack (A crafting item) LOL.
I just wanted to add, for you and other readers, that your title brings to mind 2 other game titles;
1. World of Fear - Lovecraftian Detective game done as a windows 95 emulated interface with pixel graphics, which make the enemies look disturbing.
2. Fear and Hunger - Due to difficulty, replay being essential, and learning curve makes future playthroughs easier. The monsters are uniquely and disturbingly designed.
Both have a similarly well developed unique game world and have a mysterious story which is still unknown even after finishing the title, I.e. The story is what you make of it.
I was surprised just how much fun i had. Its amazing how much entertainment one can fit within such a small file size. While the mysterious narrative leaves much to the imagination, a refreshing change from big box titles which feel they have to spoon feed every plot point to their gamers. Even after reaching the end the story is hardly any clearer.
Adding multiple characters and the moon shop give a feel similar to Fear and Hunger series. Combined with the mystery narrative and horror theme, i sincerely hope it was an influence in this game. If not, i bet anybody who enjoys this will have fun (if it can be called that) with fear and hunger.
I don't think there are too many people interested in it, so I haven't created an official server yet (it will probably be created before the release), but if you scroll through the comments, there are two people who have created an unofficial server
If you are only reading this part of the comment download the game now I would highly recommend so now to why I would recommend. I started to download the game for the interesting art style and because I'm a big fan of roguelikes. I kind of thought it would be a bit cookie cutter, which I haven't to say no since I want to play it so bad again. This game reminds me of World of Horror gameplay wise just without the investigation stuff in that other game. Also this game leans pretty heavy on probability in not just the combat but just moving from location to location. This turned out to be a pretty good experience especially since alot of the games on this website are mid to bad putting it nicely so great job I can't wait to see more from you and I followed to make sure I don't miss anything.
As I said I really enjoyed myself playing this game and I think it shows in the vid so could you check it out, I would really appreciate that.
Absolute fantastic roguelike game. The RNG really satisfied my gambling side. The lore. The unexpected element. I'm already ROOTing for this. Hope will be more content like voicelines or enemies.
This is a great game. It has a good loop, a balance of strategy with RNG that is rewarding, rather than annoying. I did notice a few issues with the "translation" of a person (not saying more for spoiler reasons).
Thanks for your feedback, I didn't know you got so far! The translation issues have already been reported and fixed for the final release, but thank you for pointing them out
Long-time roguelike playing, first-time commenting cuz this is literally one of the best roguelike games I've ever played! Great music and art, and also real creative character design making the gameplay truly diversified. The unexpected events are well designed too. My favourite one is where the game "crashes". All in all, 10/10. Looking forward to your future releases!
Never have I been so captivated by I world I knew so little about i have so many ideas and theories and questions. the game Itself doesn't feel unfinshed at all if It wasn't for the developer and the game saying it I legitimately wouldn't know. The only complaint I have is the unexpected events are a bit annoying notably the crimsion dancer one but other than that 10/10
It's just a little annoying to have the turn wasted randomly and the crimson danser event leads you on a bit to long you get excited that you get an upgrade and then you just don't. I don't have any issue with the other things that waste your turn or make it detrimental because you are actively chosing to take that risk but the events are on almost every location and you can't really plan around them but they don't happen enought to be a major problem. This is just a suggestion but having the event trigger then having your turn play is a solution I think would work.
Thanks for the detailed feedback! The fact that the unexpected event "wastes your turn" is intentional, but I note that it might be frustrating for the player!
That is a shame, as soon as you release it I am giving highest score, keep on going, oh btw you might try and contact some brazilian streamers to play this when finished, a lot of people here enjoy this kind of mysterious and weird content a lot, I suggest names like Goulart or cellbit (that love this kind of games), just my opinion to get some "marketing" once it is finished tho
I've had a blast figuring things out as I go, here's what I've got so far. A Discord server would be awesome since this seems like it's gonna be one of those lots-of-secrets kinda games.
Wow man, what a game.... I literaly just created an account to leave a comment because this is an insane hidden gem ! I absolutely love the atmosphere, the lore, the easter eggs, everything ! It's one of the first time I'm spending a lot of time on a game like this one ! I do have one interrogation : I've unlocked every memory except the one just before noire... Is it because the game is not yet finished, as the crimson dancers seem to say? Or have I missed something... Anyways, your game is incredible man I absolutely fell in love with it
Livid Meadow is the game with Root as the protagonist. All other games here on itch are not connected to NO-SKIN. Everything will be explained in the full game, so there will be no need to play other games, even if they are somewhat connected
Great game don't know how your supposed to beat the boss after the deer headed man fight also I don't know if this is intentional but when you play as root or luna you can still encounter them as enemies leading to situations where you fight yourself. don't understand the lore at all for example no-skin man says you'll see the world as it really is and everyone becomes hositile to you. but if as luna you make the percentage obtained in order to find the skin negative you fight "the real mary" implying that the mary you find normaly is not real. Still missing the final two dream diary entries. I love this game and hope to see it grow in popularity and coverage.
Thank you a lot for your compliments. I can't answer many of your questions because they're spoilers. The game is not complete yet, so not everything is explained. It's perfectly normal to encounter the same character you are playing as, and it's also possible to understand the reason. The battle after the Deer-Headed Man is a tough one, but it's beatable!(with some extra help, and I can't say more...)
this game is such a vibe, just dreadful atmosphere from the first few moments. Simple yet engaging gameplay, great surprises, doesn't give itself away right away, which I appreciate. Beautiful sound design and shader backgrounds a la Earthbound. Super stoked about the future of this game, I can easily see myself paying up to 10 bucks for this game.
(I think Luna's encrypted speech might have two typos, switching some U's and V's here and there. Also I experienced some frequent slowdowns while playing with Xbox controller, I think this might be a Game Maker Issue though.)
Didn't know about that! The design of the No-Skin Man is like that because it metaphorically represents reality without filters. It's not my intention to reference any real event
This game is such a gem!! I played it for hours today, and it's so much fun!! I still need to get the rest of the dream journals, and I adore the more meta unexpected events ^^ I'm excited to pick it back up again and find out more about the encounters and story!
Finally got around to playing this again after the updates, and I've gotta say that this is incredible. More wonderful lore, more enemies, more characters, cool interactions between certain characters; this is fantastic. Even what I'm assuming to be secrets (breaking out of boundaries, specific character interactions between the player and a certain npc, etc.) are a joy to uncover. Honestly, I can't wait for there to be more content.
Also, it's nice that there's a Steam page for it. It sorta has that "official" feel to it, y'know? At least, I know some people have preconception about games on Itch.io, so hopefully having the option to play it on Steam will encourage more people to give it a try.
I can't really think of specific areas to improve upon at the moment, to be honest. The only thing I'm curious about is the frequency of unexpected events. Maybe it's because I was playing the game a long time, but it seemed to happen more frequently than I expected. Perhaps I'm just that lucky (or unlucky depending on the context...)
Either way, really I'm just hungry for more content, and I eagerly await whatever you come up with next. Seriously, you've done a wonderful job so far, and I wish you the best in developing this game (or other stuff if you ever choose to do something else).
Thank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate that you come back for the update and liked the new content. There's still much much more to add, I hope that the updates will meet your expectations
Truly an excellent game. The horror aspect is an interesting one, but the RPG elements of this game are very solid and enjoyable. The items are all useful (apart from cigarettes, lol). Luna as a character is probably a little too OP and could probably be nerfed, but I liked it nonetheless. So far I believe I've essentially finished what the game has to offer so far, with all except two dream diary entries unlocked. Still not sure what to do about the Deer Man and dimensional beings though :)
Thank you for playing and for your feedback. Luna is intended to be OP because she's technically the last thing you will unlock. I like the idea that the player could "break" the game when he knows how it works.
If you're interested in finding out what the "Deer thing" is, play with Root and try to make them interact.
You can unlock the last diary entry. I can only say that you can do it with any chara, but it's easier with Luna. You have to "think outside the box"
This game is very different from other roguelike games ive played. I won't lie at first, I was a little frustrated because I felt too weak compared to the enemies but then I realized that items combined with praying (and luck from the RNG gods) make playthroughs a lot easier. Once I got good items, I had a bunch of fun!
I was able to complete one playthrough in ~50 minutes and i look forward to doing more to complete the dream journal!
I stumbled upon this game and I'm very glad about it. The art style is appealing and the main boss is a highlight for me. Gives me some hellraiser and fear and hunger vibes and I love it. The combat is simple, but fun. For the room mechanics, they can be confusing at the beginning, but you will understand them quick. The long gilled fish and the frogs are venders for examble. The bosses are challanging, but in a dark souls way (at least for me). Hard but satisfying if you beat them. The game has allready a lot of contant.
But since the new update my game crashes, if I try to start it and this error message showes up. If you have a idea how to fix that please let me know.
I'm looking forward to new contant and updates and I recommend, you give this a try.
Thank you so much for your feedback. As I wrote in the game description, you need to install DirectX9 API so the error will not appear. You can also contact me on X (@NoEye-Soft), and I will provide you a new version of the game (which just needs a bit more testing and will be public in a few days) that will work even without installing the API
Recently I haven't been playing any type of game as I've been not only busy with school but kind of in a drought. When I had free time, I decided to look through itch under the horror category, as I typically enjoy horror games, and Im so glad I did because I found this game! Absolutely fell in love with the gameplay, artystyle, mechanics, everything with it is just perfect! I love it! Please keep up the great work, and I am looking forward to potential future updates, and I WILL be there to play them!!!
P.S: Is there a file, folder, or something I can access to see the full png's of the character sprites in the game? I love so many of them and would love to look at them as PNGs!!!
Comin back after hearing major updates to the game found a rather tried and true strategy managed to beat it quite a few times in a row and very interesting to see that new playable characters are being implementing as well game is coming along very well
very cool game, but man, is it frustrating. i won the first run i played, despite being quite challenging. but the others i did were impossibile to complete, thanks to the unbalanced rng. my main issue is with the shops and upgrades. it is very, very annoying to fail two times in a row the encounters that are fundamental to actually progress the game. maybe i'm doing something wrong?
The underlying game mechanic (entering a room and events happening based on percentages) makes the game heavily reliant on rng. Victory/defeat doesn't solely hinge on this, but it's possible to lose solely because of bad luck. Personally, I appreciate games that rely heavily on rng(such as The Binding of Isaac), but I understand that this can be frustrating for some players. I'm sorry you found it so frustrating, I'll try to improve the balance with the upcoming updates to make it less rng-based and to reward skill more. I don't think that you're doing anything wrong, but the game becomes easier and easier as you unlock more upgrades and uncover some gameplay mechanics
Yeah you're right! It's actually cool that there's much rng involved, but i guess just a tiny buff to the upgrade encounters would be fine. I'm very stubborn, and I really want to know the full lore and story, so I'll just keep playing 'till I make it. That should tell that you made a really cool and special experience
I really appreciate that you've decided to keep playing! I shouldn't say this, but the game actually secretly adjusts the percentages to help the player, for example by increasing the chance of shops appearing every time an enemy is encountered in the room where the shop can spawn. I'll try to further improve this aspect and general balancing in the upcoming updates, thank you for your feedback!
thats the first ever time i've been so amazed by an itch.io game its truly a good simple roguelike with the deliriant horror elements working like a charm

ok please add an are you sure button to the razor blade for Luna. I keep accidently clicking it
Noted!
this is probably one of my favorite small horror games so far. I hope you'll get enough support to make even better ones
Thank you!
It feels finished enough...
I feel getting the living guts 2 or 3 times is a must to really beat the last bosses. I end up saving my nightshades or gunpowders for the 1st then final boss.

Amazing experience! I've unlocked all I can but I have no clue how to get the final memory! any hints would be absolutely appreciated, thx<3
WAIT nvm i got it :3
I really appreciate that you collected all the memories!
I loved the gameplay experience genuinely nowhere near enough people are talking about it! The final sequence was incredible!
Is there a discord server or something?
I don't think there are too many people interested in it, so I haven't created an official server yet (it will probably be created before the release), but if you scroll through the comments, there are two people who have created an unofficial server
I checked, its invalid invite (please create a official discord server.. please)

also will the release be paid? (please no)
As I said I really enjoyed myself playing this game and I think it shows in the vid so could you check it out, I would really appreciate that.

I appreciate a lot your gameplay+review!
np this is some good work. Thanks for stopping by my vid

Thank you so much for your feedback
This is a great game. It has a good loop, a balance of strategy with RNG that is rewarding, rather than annoying. I did notice a few issues with the "translation" of a person (not saying more for spoiler reasons).
Examples:
ARE YOU STILL CONVINCED YOU ARE "KE"
YOURE "JVST" A PITIFUL COPY
"IK" THE ORIGINAL
Thanks for your feedback, I didn't know you got so far! The translation issues have already been reported and fixed for the final release, but thank you for pointing them out
This game is so much fun. I have the steam version wishlisted. (:<
literally the best game ive played on this site. sooo much fun and sooo much to uncover <3
I appreciate a lot <3

Thank you for the kind words. Feel free to tell me what you don't like about the unexpected events, I will try my best to fix them!
I loved this, I am looking forward to the game final release, loved the story the character, I tried to give a review on steam but couldnt
(I created my itch io account just to comment)
Thank you for your feedback! Steam only allows you to leave a review when the full game is released :c
Thanks for your support and suggestions!
Just played a couple rounds and got my first ending/memory! This is really great, and I can't wait to see the full release <3 !
Thank you, I hope you'll appreciate the final game <3
It's the really creepy environment and the really cool design. I love the roguelike and pixel art. Nice game!
Thanks!
hehe
Played Steam demo, great atmosphere, and very engaging gameplay! Can't wait for full version.
Thanks for playing! I hope that the final game will meet your expectations
I've had a blast figuring things out as I go, here's what I've got so far. A Discord server would be awesome since this seems like it's gonna be one of those lots-of-secrets kinda games.
Wow, I'm truly honored! The Discord server will probably be created when the full game is released
Already working on it
May I build on your work?
Sure! Send me a link though, if possible, would love to help.
Planning on adding a dialogue page
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DzGjeYgLtyUfZK8klWCmxjDhjWNvxcj-LFg3fLWe...
Added a lot to the original sheet, so if you're interested in me making a secret-hunting Discord or something for communication purposes lmk.
Working on it
10/10, I'll be looking forward to it being translated into Spanish, but I've almost completed it.
Thank you for playing!
I loved how horror and roguelikes meet here! Can't wait for the release.
My only complaint is, I wish we could turn off the flashing red screen when we take damage to improve the accessability.
Thank you! Yeah, flashing lights can be annoying for many people, it will be possible to turn them off in the final version
Anyways, your game is incredible man I absolutely fell in love with it
how did you get noire's
I don't want to spoil the game but just remember : you never get 100 percent for the skin...
All these hints are so cryptic
Got it thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words. The page can be unlocked! I can only say: try playing with Root and listen to the Skull Horse
Wow i just got it, and my only question is : who tf is root
So many mysteries man !
Edit : just looked at your other games, are they all linked ? Would playing the other games help solve these mysteries ?
Livid Meadow is the game with Root as the protagonist. All other games here on itch are not connected to NO-SKIN. Everything will be explained in the full game, so there will be no need to play other games, even if they are somewhat connected

going to play soon, I am so intrigued!

Nice job dude
Thanks!
Looks great!
Thank you!
the no skin man reminds of hisashi ouchi.
Didn't know about that! The design of the No-Skin Man is like that because it metaphorically represents reality without filters. It's not my intention to reference any real event
i knew that. but do you know who Hisashi Ouchi is?
Nice game bro :)
Thank you :)

Thanks for playing! I'm glad that you found the right strategy(and luck, hehe) to complete a run
Thanks a lot, the game is working again.
Saw some new random encounters and there are great.
Maybe you can add a fake blue screen?
Have a nice day :).
Thank you for your kind words! Unfortunately, there isn't a folder with the game sprites, I'll see about creating something like that
Thanks for playing! Glad you've come back for this update
very cool game, but man, is it frustrating. i won the first run i played, despite being quite challenging. but the others i did were impossibile to complete, thanks to the unbalanced rng. my main issue is with the shops and upgrades. it is very, very annoying to fail two times in a row the encounters that are fundamental to actually progress the game. maybe i'm doing something wrong?
