Oh I like this. I had a smile on my face through my entire playthrough. The whole presentation feels so polished and professional. My favorite has got to be the animation on the checkpoint - it feels like a balloon and I love it. The ending was adorable, and the art piece shown afterward was made me smile. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it even more with a controller, but I played with keyboard and mouse and still had a great time. The camera tweening makes it feel like this is an intended way of playing, even if its not *the* intended way of playing.

My one suggestion is to maybe add a blob shadow directly below the player and floating platforms to help with depth perception.

Overall, this was a great time, and I can't wait to see where you take it next.

Developer

That's very high praise, thanks so much for playing and thanks for your feedback as well! I am really glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you for that suggestion! I wanna get that drop shadow looking good for the next update

This was really well done. It's very polished for a 3D platformer made during a game jam, especially one made by one person. The modeling and animation are very charming. Movement felt good with both a controller and the keyboard.

My only real critique is that I would have liked it if the dive had a soft lock-on so it was easier to dive into balloons. It would have made the sections where you jump from balloon to balloon a bit more smooth.

I noticed the fact that the music doesn't loop wasn't in your known bugs list, so I assume that was intentional. That's fine if it was intentional, but I would have preferred if there was music always playing (after you hit the first music trigger) because I was really enjoying it.

I liked the fake-out nature of the ending. I saw the guy and was all "Oh, a boss fight, I wonder how this is going to work." and then the game just ends. I thought it was very funny.

Overall, this was very good! Great job!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing, I appreciate the feedback as well!

Really cute little game! Fantastic visuals, very bouncy, loved the model designs, the player character reminded me of those enemies that flip you on Mario Sunshine. he controls were really solid. Looking forward to see more of this game in the future!

Developer

Thanks very much, Dogveloper! I will be continuing to work on this game on the side, so I appreciate that good positive energy!

Ok, this was awesome. Felt REALLY good to control. Appreciate the option to change the inverse Y axis! Loved how it was like Mario, few ways to move and juke, definitely my kind of game. Vim was right, some Banjo vibes in here. Excellent technical work. The character design/animations/lighting all felt really great. This was excellent.

Developer

Such high praise, thank you so much for your kind feedback, and thanks for playing! If you enjoyed the game, follow me on [someplace where I exist] and you'll surely see a big update in the future ^-^

Fantastic work! The house was really cute, and all the character designs fit will together and were easy to identify at a distance. Diving to far away platforms was super fun. I can't wait to see more of this!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing, gamerrr! I'm really excited to keep workin on it.

Really cute and wholesome game. Initially I struggled with the sensitivity of controlling the camera with the mouse but then swapped over to a controller and had a much better time. You got a tonne of content in there too, I was expecting the game to end after collecting the 150 coins and fixing your house but then new areas opened up. Awesome work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so very much for playing the game and for the kind words too, gamer! Much appreciated.

Excellent work on your end as well, keep up the good work!

Solid showing! I love the character assets you made, and the idle for the main character is super cute and bouncy. Would've loved an option to invert the camera controller on the y axis for mouse and keyboard. I thought it wasn't available for a bit until I stumbled onto it on accident. Overall really great job, the music and sounds you chose were really solid

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! It means a lot. I didnt include any tutorial or input prompts in my game because I ran out of time, but I tried super hard to compensate for it by embedding the basic controls in the embed art for the web build LOL

Submitted(+1)

Great game, I'm bad at platformers and this game made me hit my wall. but its a good game all around

Developer

Thanks so much for giving it a try, I appreciate it! I'll try to make it a bit more accessible (a basic tutorial with some in put prompts will help big time)
I've played a lot of the games on this jam but I didn't get around to yours yet, I will be sure to do that soon! Thanks again~

Dude !!! How do you make a 3d platfomer that good and that polished in 10 days !! If you have time machine, please share it with the rest of us !

But seriously, just amazing ! take all my stars <3

Developer

Wow! Thank you so much for offering such high praise! Its a heartwarming feeling <3

Your game was really well polished, as well! It even had a tutorial which was super helpful. My game would have really benefited from one of those

I (fortunately) do not have access to a time machine, but I did scope down and cut many MANY things that I wanted, in order to determine the most minimum viable thing I could deliver. Between having two jobs and a wife, it took a lot of compromise to make the game playable and suitable for the jam.

This game reminds me of a game I saw in one of the dev logs on YouTube, not sure if you tried to copy it, just an observation :)

Strange camera, but overall a good game!

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thanks so much for playing, Art Surock. Appreciate it loved your game too :)

Strange camera, huh? Hmm, did you try pausing and inverting the camera in the settings? Maybe that's what you're talking about? Or maybe the fact that I had to cut follow cam from my scope? A more specific answer would be helpful, if you're okay with that.

In regards to your other comment, I believe you're talking about Paper Klay. Kev and I are acquainted. If you talk to him, you tell him I said "he copied me" :P or something hahaha.

They just both happen to be chicken characters, my avatar and his game character, they are not similar in design at all, aside from representing the same animal. The full version of this game will be very different from his, and the controller already has a completely different pacing, his game is meant to be much more casual than mine. (btw, I know you're not actually being accusatory, just wanted to clarify for anyone reading)

I love his work btw its awesome! The dude has really got his shit together. Definitely keep watching those dev logs

Oh cool, and yes, your game certainly looks and plays differently.

Regarding the camera, I didn’t notice that there are settings in the game :) Now everything works better, it was very difficult to play with the inverted camera. And one more thing i forgot to mention is the Kayote time jump, it looks like you don't have one or it's very small, without it sometimes the jumps get a little frustrating.

With normal camera it was even more fun to play!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for giving it another try! I couldn't finish a good implementation of coyote jumping for the jam version, but it will be in the next version ^-^

Submitted(+1)

This game is really so polished. Despite not having implemented all the features you wanted to, it still resulted in an INCREDIBLY polished submission. You did such a good job with prioritizing all the feedback and important parts of game polish that a lot of devs forget to add.

Excited to see what you do with the game in the future!

Developer

Thank you gamer! Your game was excellent, too, I loved it very much.

I know exactly what to do next! MAKE GaMEe

Very nice game. Might have the potential to become a boomer platformer for a full release. Very soothing and cute graphics. Nice sounds. Maybe populate the world with a little vegetation and structures. Also, my preference is the camera should stay frozen at like a downward angle and when you want to move the camera then it moves. After not moving it drifts back to its normal position. Otherwise, enjoyed it a lot and had fun.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback and thanks so much for playing!

Now that the jam is done I'd like to flesh out some real levels, with pretty decorations and all!

The cam follow / cam assist thing was something I spent a little bit of leftover time trying to implement but couldnt squeeze it. I'll work on it for the next version though! Thanks for the advice on that.

Very glad you enjoyed the game! So, is a boomer platformer a platformer for older generations? Is that what that means? LOL

Submitted(+1)

NP :) A boomer platformer is like crash bandicoot, Spyro and SpongeBob. I loved the SpongeBob game when I was like 9 and then the remake game out and I loved it again when I was 20. So you can kind of it the young audience and adult audience at the same time 😀

What an incredible game. Great visuals and such a high level of polish, I loved all the little squashes and stretches and animations were amazing! Level design is really good and fun. Every time a new area popped up and the music started to play it honestly made me so happy. Definitely my favourite game in the jam so far!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, gamer! I really enjoyed your game as well!

Submitted(+1)

Really nice and well polished game! Kind of got a little stuck while playing, but it's pretty good overall.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Do you remember where you got stuck? I wanna take note of where to do some more collision checking (or maybe you meant you couldnt find the relevant checkpoint to unlock the next path?)

Submitted

Hey, sorry for responding late. I was stuck at a section with a spring that wasn't launching me high enough. I read the instructions a bit more and I was able to get past it :)

(+1)

I love everything about this. The animations, the routing by coins, platforms and checkpoints. The NPCs are great too!

Developer

Thanks, Grim, I'm glad you like it, gamer!

Didn't know that I could invert the camera till I was 5 minutes into the game. The platforming is very harsh and the jumps don't seem to take you high enough at times. liked the music, vibes and idea for the game !

Developer

Hey Luke, thanks for playing. Did you read the Gamer Tips in the pause menu? It's the first one that says you can gain more air by holding the jump button. If you keep a-holding and letting go in mind to control your jump arc, you will find the controls you need! You can also get a little extra needed air by diving right at the apex of your jump. The game is meant to be hard though, so good luck!

(+1)

I started the game and I didn't expect that the camera Y were the opposite of what I am used to for keyboard. I almost stopped playing it there, but I told curdle about it and apparently if you hit TAB, you can see settings menu and so I was able to invert the Y axis for camera movement.

I feared the guys that follow you, but later i realized that there is no downside from getting hit by them since you have no health.

Loved that there is multiple ways to get to some places since curdle probably knew that some of us cant do those balloon jumps as shortcuts. The checkpoints were well placed.

OH, try to do the curdle dive! It was funny, at least to me.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, Wispre! And thanks for pointing out the pause menu as well, I'm hoping more people will take a look in there, or at least on the info on my jam page. I wish I had time to make an input tutorial before the deadline! Guess that's just how jams go

(+1)

Still a homeless chicken because I didn't bring back the coins to the builder and went straigth to the boss, other than that it's a fun game, the camera goes a bit wild if playing on mouse and keyboard and depth perception can screw you over sometimes, the music is good but it takes a while to play again between loops

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, Akira! Haha you got the "broken home" ending :P

Developer

Did you try using the pause menu settings to adjust the sensitivity or invert the camera pitch? That might help. The pause menu can be found with either Start or Tab. Also, I'm glad you like the music! They're actually all unique songs that cue based on progression, they are just similar tunes made by the same composer

Developer

THEME RELEVANCE -- There wasn't a form for it for some reason, so I'll write it here:

The game has checkpoints that do the standard checkpoint thing, respawning the player at the last one they touched. However they also sometimes trigger new paths to appear, paths that cross with the ones that were initially accessible, specifically when you cross paths with old friends.

In addition to that, I designed the game and the level with future thoughts of speed-running in mind. I specifically made it so that checkpoints can be cheesed to save time if you're going for that PB.

Speed-run timer and leaderboard coming next update! (Which will be after the VimJam4 ratings have concluded)
