Nicely done! Great use of the secondary themes, and very nifty art style. :D

Vampire Survivors with mechs and aliens!

PROS:

  • An interesting set of enemies that gave unique behaviors so I had to act differently to try and engage each of them.
  • Most sprites and most of the tileset had really good pixel art.
  • Definitely a unique entry into the jam and a nice spin on what a mech game could be.

CRITIQUE:

  • Movement (stopping specifically) feels animation driven, which makes it feel unresponsive. In a Vampire Survivors style game I want to tightly dictate my current orientation so that I can target my attacks better, but if I'm stuck in an animation that's dictating my character orientation then I feel less in control of my aim and less agency as a player.
  • Could probably get even more diverse with the enemy behaviors. Something like the Mushroom enemies that drop health actively running away from the player rather than randomly or towards the player would possibly clue players in on the idea that you should chase those enemies because they drop something more that you want.
  • Possibly a bug, but playing in browser it looked like enemies spawned in locations just outside of the default in-browser window size rather than outside the edges of the full screen (when I set it to full-screen mode). It breaks the immersion if enemies just pop into existence next to you and can feel like a "cheap shot" if it's close enough to players that the player may not be able to actively avoid running into the newly spawned enemy.

Thank you very much for playing the game PolyB! didn't expect to find you here :)
Yes this entry needs a lot of refinement in term of gameplay and it also needs a lot of bug fixing!
but it's a great start because we got a few first-timers! props for them to finishing the game!

The visuals and are very cool, I love the style. The music sounded great. I found it a little unclear how the killing of enemies was supposed to work at first, but once I did it felt good.

Nice Vampire Survivors like! I love the art and music you have going but the gameplay could use a bit of work. It was hard to tell exactly if I was actually hitting the enemies, and the character felt a bit floaty to control. Might also be nice if there were some push back from enemies or something when you take damage, or some sort of feedback when you get hit. Very nice start though! I love seeing more of these games so I'm excited to see where you guys take it.

Nice entry.  It's always interesting to see the different things that can be tweaked to make a different feeling game from Vampire Survivors.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing the game! And also for the kind words!

Nice concept overall

The auto attack system is a nice change of pace but it has some issues though :/ The character doesn't seem to turn around properly sometimes, and this combined with the fact that you don't control exactly when you attack makes combat a bit tedious at times.

Other than that i like the general idea, the sorta horde mode and level up game mode you have here is fun and i feel that with the level up system this has a good base in place to add some future variety.

Artwise the pixel art is very nice, and the music is really awesome ^^

Regardless of the mentioned issues, you guys did great so keep at it :)

Developer

Thank Youuu we'll work on all these issues in the future :)

Great graphcs and sound. I wasn't sure how to fight off the enemies.

Developer

Thank you for playing Becca! Agreed there are still lots of things to be refined

The game has potential! I see what you were going for and with a bit more polish it would be way more entertaining, the greatest problem I had was the hit boxes and the ability to turn around and hit things, i was very difficult, but the rest was rather cool! Good job!

Thank youuu

Music was great. Had a hard time controlling my character, felt a little floaty, so it made it difficult to hit the enemies. Felt really satisfying finding that upgrade though!

Thank you for playing and also for the feedback! :)
