The game was very well made. and the concept was really unique for a bullet hell game. Great Job!

Really creative idea, thought it was a great spin on the bullet hell genre, also loved the pointless phone game :D

Developer

Thank you! I'm really glad you liked what you played :)

I love the creativity. The bullet dodging was fun and combining a bullet hell with a dating sim is genius. Hope you continue it.

If you want to check out my game as well, I would appreciate it :)

Thank you for playing, I'm really glad you liked it! :)

I will definitely check out your game when I have the time

Really interesting concept, and I couldn't stop my doki-doki felling when Simon blushed :D.

J4F: There is a Yaoi Jam that I think u should submit this game as well XD

Developer

Thank you for playing! I am definitely planning on doing that jam. :)

I think a dating simulator was the last thing I expected to see at this jam hahahahha

Developer

Thank you for playing! :)

I'm generally a waifu guy, but I think Simon is pretty waifu material

Developer

I agree 100%

Very creative concept! loved the idea of getting different endings based on how well you do at evading the bullets! Genius!

Thank you! :)

Fun game! Felt like Undertale. An improvement for the future might be to add a cool down for pressing spacebar so people can't rush through the whole game lol

Developer

Thanks for playing! That is a really good idea, thanks for the feedback :)

Haha I completely love the narrative, the characters and the whole concept of this game. It's super creative and engaging. The bullet hell part was a little easy (too many hearts maybe) and there weren't many patterns, but wow I see this as something that could be expanded on.

The idea is great, Simon and John are lovely, and I'm pretty sure that with overall polishing and improvements on the bullet hell parts this game could be an absolute blast. I see that you still don't know yet if you're continuing development or not, but I'll definitely follow you on itch in case you do.

Well done!

Developer

Thank you! I really appreciate the support! I'll be sure to make some kind of post on itch if I ever plan on continuing development. :)

The idea of a Visual novel x Undertale style bullet hell is really creative. I liked the concept and it could definitely be made into something really cool!

For the gameplay part - I do have some minor complaints, the player's hitbox felt inconsistent and I got hit when I thought I shouldn't get hit. If I remember correctly, Godot lets you do circular hitboxes right? So perhaps this issue could be fixed with some tweaking and testing for player and bullet hitboxes. Also, it took me a while to realize that you're not supposed to dodge red hearts, which I mean, makes sense right, the main character is actually really enjoying interacting with Simon, but yeah it would be neat if the narrator voice said something that hints at hearts being a bonus.

Though, I understand that the visual novel part of the game is the most important one you'll likely focus on, so it's okay if the dodging part is not perfect. I'm curious to see how Escape The Date will grow in the future!

Thank you! I really appreciate your feedback and I'm super glad you enjoyed what you played! :)

I definitely agree and feel like I could have polished most thing better. I don't know what I'm going to do with this project in the future, but I will definitely keep your feedback in mind!

Pretty cool! I giggled when I saw anxiety square. Got Undertale vibes.

I can see this being an actual game where you go on horrible dates and you need to dodge bullets to escape whenever your date says anything you consider a red flag, and if you get too anxious your character says something dumb instead.

Also there's a raccoon in a shirt.

Developer

Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)

I don't know what I'm going to do with this game in the future, but making a full game is definitely a possibility!

Wow, did not expect something like this! Kudos to your creativity, this is not my type of game but I had a lot of fun, and I love seeing games that do something different! Great entry!

Developer

Thank you! I really appreciate you giving it a try even though it's not your type of game :)

Who would've thought?? A dating game?? not only that, but the execution is really well done :D

I really like how each conversation brings a new patern of bullets to avoid! I have seen your progress on discord, and I wanted to try it, and happily, I was not disappointed! The audio is very good, the story is well written! Really cool, and I hope you keep working on it :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I really appreciate that and I'm glad you liked what you played :)

I love this concept, it's so damn creative! Representing anxieties over a date with a bullet board like in Undertale is just brilliant! I also really love the artstyle of putting together a bunch of stock photos together, and the sound design is really nice. The dialog does stumble a little at times, but it's overall well-written and was really funny.

I think my only problems with it is that it's pretty short and that there wasn't that much variety in bullet patterns. Definitely a really good game to expand on, if you ever decide to!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)

Also, thank you for the feedback! I don't know what I'm going to do with this game in the future, but making it a bigger game is definitely a possibility!

That was a pretty fun game, I died instantly because I thought I was supposed to also dodge the red hearts just like when I go on dates in real life.

I have noticed the hitboxes are pretty strange. As a result, when you try to go between two bullets you will actually hit both so the strategy becomes to go directly into the line of fire for one to get hit as few times as possible.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeah, I agree, the hitboxes could have really used some polishing.

Clever take on the theme and bullet hell concept!

Developer

Thank you!

This game was insanely creative! I had a laugh quite a few times, too. Tons of fun! My only problem was that the player's hitbox is waaaayyyy larger than the circle you play as, which is something you want to avoid. There were quite a few times where I was quite a distance from any drops but still heard the hit sound. Other than that - this game is incredible! Definitely play it if you want a chill, funny experience.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm really quite glad you enjoyed it. I agree that I could have made the hitboxes better, but at least I know now for next time!
