How does your game fit the theme?
We feel it fits the theme of Out of control because it literally randomly changes the usual control keys that player often use to move and jump in game. They cannot control the time the key changes nor to what key changes there are. In addition to that, they are not in control of the gravity shifts as they try to escape the lava. Basically put, it fits the theme of Out of Control as we interpreted the theme as Out of Control being not in control, and in this case, the controls for movements.

This was a cool take on swapping the player controls and definitely fed into the out of control theme. As others have mentioned it might be a nice idea to provide some indicator of when the controls swap but this is something that can easily be implemented post jam. I'm a big fan of the pixel art and the game looks great.
Overall a nice entry, good luck with the rest of the jam!
Good job on this game. Feels intense to play, and I kept trying and trying until I managed to get somewhat far, and it was actually fun, once figured out some of the keys :) Some of the keybinds are difficult, sometimes impossible. Sometimes the move left/right box had just one key in it, I just pressed random keys until one worked.
Overall it was a fun and interesting game! :)
I really like the concept you've got here, it really adds to the challenge of the game when you think you have the controls just right and then they change on you - very interesting idea! Good job! :)
The idea of the game is really similar to mine :) I liked the art. good job.
Aw man, I really wish the game wouldn't rebind the keys to F1-F12. It basically a death sentence for me because i couldn't control the player with those keys :( I was also praying that Alt + F4 as a combination, that would have been hilarious. Otherwise the platforming actually felt fine for me. I actually really like the aesthetic, plus the character is cute! There are also some minor issues that other comments other mentioned, like the small fonts or weird UI on the screen. Other than that, I think this is a solid entry to the jam. Enjoyed my time playing it. Great job!
I have seen a couple of games that change up the keys that the player uses but I think this game implements it in a really simple and neat way. My only real feedback is maybe you should not allow certain keys to be in the current control scheme together as I ended up tabbing out of the window on windows when I got tab to go left and alt to jump. Solid submission though!
Rebinding control is a common theme of this jam. The graphics is quite nice and that had me trying harder to play this game. Good work with the graphics.
UX-wise, that is not so well-done:
A good way to combat this is to just use lowercase alphabets, and maybe the numbers.
It is already quite fun with fingers twisting in the wrong directions
When I get to higher portions of the stage, I am suddenly teleported to somewhere.
Is it the end of level?
I really like the idea of the game, had some issues with some of the bindings that I couldn't find or that didn't work (I'm a azerty pleb) but nonetheless really Nice game!:) good pixel art
A simple platformer with some nice pixel graphics, there's some fun to be had here. There is one big issue I had, at it's core to this game: Key Bindings.
When the controls swap, it's sudden, there's no warning, there's no feedback. It's rather jarring. Not to mention that the control swapping seemed a bit buggy as some controls were just removed instead of replaced, there were 2 times where moving right was completely unbound. This concept can work, maybe give a warning just before the control change and see how this changes things!
Address that and you've got a fun little game here! Great work! ^-^
Nice game. The lava slowly getting closer makes the game very stressful, in a good way. Many games use random controls and are a little boring. With the lava finding the right keys is way more exciting. I had a small problem with some of the keys. I think it might be because I use a Danish layout, but besides that, you did a good job with the game :)
Cool little pixel platformer game with sharp controls and interesting level design ! The main "critics" would be to have a notification / feedback on the changes of controls. Otherwise the idea of making the controls as far as F12 really kept me on my toes ! :D Great work !
The concept is interesting, but I would have liked it more if there was some sort of feedback to notice the controls change (a sound, an animation on the UI?). I had the same issue as many people too : with an AZERTY keyboard, even by switching to a QWERTY preset, there are some keys that I don't have (had to press "ù" for ":" for instance, but I had to test every key to find that :/). That's some minor changes to do to that game though, and the rest was well-made, so, good job!
This game is very difficult for me. I dont have some keys on my keyboard and some keys are hard to recognize because of the font. But idea is still not bad, this game needs complition to be cool.
Good game, however I found the text small and some keys didn't exist on my laptop or I had to hold down a modifier key to press.
Great mechanic! Also. really challenging Love the artwork and soundtrack
Hey, this was a neat little concept for a game. I had two things I struggled with throughout my play session though. The first being, the text in the UI is really, really small. I found myself leaning forward in my chair squinting trying to read the text. I didn't understand what it was trying to tell me at first until I started button mashing, then I finally got that it was telling me the directions and jump buttons to press to move. Making UI elements more readible and understandable would help a lot for me.
Also, I know the theme of the jam was "out of control". But I found the controls to be kind of unintuitive. I think the concept of randomly generating the controls at a random interval can work, I just think some of the combinations were really weird for me to do with my hands. For example, I once had to press "1" for left, "0" for right, and right control to jump. There's really not a comfortable way to position my right hand in a way that makes that comfortable to control. I understand the random controls were meant to fit the theme, but I found the placement of my hands more annoying at times rather than fun.
That being said, when I got random controls that felt better with my hand positioning, I thought the game was a lot more fun. I enjoyed traversing the terrain and trying to overcome different obstacles. I wish there was a little more to the level design to mix it up a bit. Maybe different types of terrain that give different status effects? Just something to mix it up a bit so it isn't just the same jumping the entire time.
Overall, I think it was a fun experience. I enjoyed it :)
I like the concept of constantly-remapped control, but unfortunately it seemed like many keys would not work for me. Might have something to do with having a different keyboard layout, but keys like these:
{}/\'´
Didn't work for me.
Still a cool take on the theme, congrats on the submission!
The art is really cute in this one, especially the slime. I wish it was more clear when the input was changed. I had a hard time understanding if I stopped moving because of input switch or if it was a collision detection thing, so I ended up having to look at the input instructions every time, but maybe that was intentional.
Love the slime!
The slime is soo cute! And it's a fun game! Great work!
