  • I think this could be a really cool game if you gave it more time! The visuals are fantastic and remind me of old PC games. The concept is also really creative and I do hope you choose to pursue this concept if you wish, of course. It took me a bit to figure out how to play, and I also couldn't really determine the objective of the game, but you said the game is unfinished so I understand. Regardless, thanks for joining the ShroomJam! I still enjoyed looking at the game and walking around!

Interesting graphics and aesthetic you got started with here. There's a lot of mystery for what the various colours and symbols mean, and the desire to figure that out is pretty good! Would be interested to see where it would go!

I'm not sure how to judge an unfinished game. The aesthetic is pleasing, and even if there was no game essence, I somehow found it a little fun to roam around and just gradually increase my character's stats. Intriguing!

Huh. Interesting game. I really liked the Atari-like aesthetic and the focus on exploration. However, I’m a bit iffy on the movement mechanic; having to manually click on energy cards to gain the energy necessary to move becomes tedious after a while. I think it would be more enjoyable if this mechanic were limited to when enemies are nearby, or if the player could automatically gain around 10 energy at the end of each turn.

I'm also pretty sure you can gain infinite health just by ending your turn and waiting for health cards. Overall, it’s a fun game—I enjoyed exploring the different areas, and I really like that you added unique biomes for each area.

I agree on the movement mechanic. I was annoyed myself when playtesting LOL. I also found that sometimes it’s not communicated well if you mis-click the button vs if you’re out of energy. I think audio queues would help mitigate this - a click sound for the button and an error noise for if you’re out of energy. Auto-gaining energy at the start of a turn seems like a good idea to me - and decreasing the number of energy cards would probably be a good trade-off - maybe in V2 if I pick this back up. I also toyed with the idea of overflowing the health regen into energy if health is full. With a bit more time I think this could have been a lot more interesting and less frustrating to play.

I probably should have just disabled health in the build I uploaded, since I ran out of time to add enemies/combat

Yeah, adding some audio cues for energy and converting energy to health sounds like a cool idea. With some tweaks, I think the game could turn into something truly great. Great work regardless!
