3 Years of DELTATRAVELER!!!

Can you believe that it's been 3 years since the first version of DELTATRAVELER released?  That's like... the time it took between UNDERTALE and DELTARUNE Chapter 1.  And the time between DELTARUNE Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.  And any other 3 year gap that's more substantial.  It's hard to believe, but it's only going to grow older.

That being said, there isn't really much to talk about anniversary wise.  I went over THAT last year.  However, I do think a status update is in order, at least.

Current DELTATRAVELER Status

So, what have we been up to since the last status update and the Sans overhaul update?

NOTHING.

The project has been on hiatus since Section 3 released, with only some minor work on v3.1.0 being done, v3.0.6 notwithstanding.  And if you've seen my video about my 10 years on YouTube, you'll know why.  From the project's inception up until v3.0.0, I had spent most of my creative energy on DELTATRAVELER.  That's over 2 years straight of working on this game.  So I felt that it's warranted that I spend my energy elsewhere.  If you're wondering if anyone else has been working on the game in my absence, recently Sophie (who was responsible for a lot of the changes in v3.0.8) has been working on continuing some v3.1.0 features a little bit.

Currently, I'm working on an animation called "UNDERTALE: The Last Amalgamate," which has been going incredibly well.  I'm hoping to have it done and out by the time UNDERTALE Yellow's one year anniversary arrives.  If not, then at least sometime in mid-December.  Fingers crossed on that, haha.  If you wanna keep up with that, feel free to subscribe to the VyletBunni YouTube channel :3

The most notable thing to really happen during the hiatus (not counting v3.0.6) is that Dess will be receiving a new design for both her Undertale and Deltarune counterparts.  The creator of the current design of Dess, HUECYCLES, felt that this iteration of Dess (which is used in her other projects) has changed so much that she doesn't feel right being in DELTATRAVELER.  So she proposed new designs!

We've shown this design off on other platforms, and it seems like people like it!  This new version of Dess will be implemented into v3.1.0, replacing the old design.  None of her dialogue will change.

Current Release Schedule + Formal Spinoff Unveil

So on April Fools, we joked about making DELTATRAVELER Yellow, having Clover and Kanako from UNDERTALE Yellow go somewhere like Kris and Susie.  However, a lot of people really liked that idea, so we thought about making a one section spinoff game that takes place in TS!UNDERSWAP's Ruined Home starring the two; aptly called DELTATRAVELER Yellow.

(DISCLAIMER: These are mockup screenshots.)

For those that have kept up with the (now defunct) Discord server and our Tumblr, we've stated in the past that we wanted to work on the spinoff after we wrapped up with v3.1.0.  However, we now feel that this release schedule deprives the main game too much.

So, we will be pushing DELTATRAVELER Yellow's development back to occur AFTER we release v4 of the main game.  In other words...

v3.1.0 (Arena Mode) > v4.0.0 (Section 4) > DELTATRAVELER Yellow

Official Website

In addition to this platform, we now have an official website!  We put a bunch of stuff on it, like an FAQ, About page, every single version patch notes, an RSS feed (if you know what that is), and another method to download the game.  There may also be some hidden secrets...?

If it isn't obvious, I modeled it directly after the UNDERTALE and DELTARUNE websites.  If you wanna check it out, you can go to

The Fate of Android

If you remember from the last status update, we had said that we planned on v3.1.0 introducing much more robust Android support with configurable mobile controls.  However, the mood regarding the whole platform has shifted as we've discussed whether we want to even continue supporting it.

For one, it isn't a platform I'm really that enthusiastic over.  I personally do not play video games on my phone, nor do I want to.  Secondly, the game isn't made with mobile in mind at all.  It is literally a PC game that's hamfisted onto a phone.  This makes a lot of things like Jump Mode very cumbersome to use, and will make Section 7 difficult to adapt once we get to it.

While fixes could be made to mitigate issues like those... I am not passionate about the platform.  I have asked other team members if they want to handle the platform themselves, but if no one wants to, then there's a good chance that we'll discontinue Android.  Either that, or we scrap the planned v3.1.0 Android improvements.  I know that isn't something that many people want to hear, but again... we are not passionate about forcing a game that is based on PC / console game structure and control onto phones.  To compensate, we will look more into potential Mac support.  It could end up being pricey on our end, but we'll see.

That's kind of it for now.  Not too much has been happening, so not much to talk about.  Next year should be more exciting for the game (that and DELTARUNE!!!).

Until next time!!! :3

Aw man, It will be tragic for me if the Android port gets discontinued.

I don't have a PC, neither acess to any other, my phone is the only way to play the game. :(

But if that happened, I would unfortunatly be forced to watch gameplays.

漂亮!

Deltatraveler and Deltatraveler yellow should mix together some way

I can not wait for the next section

Why is it called DELTATRAVELER? There's no DELTA here...

UNLESS-

(+2)

When I first looked into DELTATRAVELER I was surprised it even had an Android port so I can't say I'm all surprised that It'll potentially be discontinued.

For what it's worth I found that it still plays surprisingly well with the current sections, even with blue soul mode, a soul mode that's the bane of touchscreens.

The Jerry fight, Underfell Sans, and TS!UNDERSWAP's Crossbones/Sans fights are all surprisingly fun on Android.  It requires a lot of precision and it can be fun tackling them with the touch screen.   A surprisingly fun challenge.

But it wouldn't be worth holding back future sections just to keep Android playable.  Losing the port would be saddening but it'd be better than the alternative.

Y'all already have enough on your plate.  No need to hurt production working on a port you're not very interested in continuing.  If Android gets dropped, then I've faith that it'll be for the best.
