Oh hell no - those dummies freaked me out even before I figured out what the title of the game meant! Good use of a stealth hiding mechanic for the horror design. I think level layout can help set a little variety and balance the challenge, but it makes for a very convincing clothes store! The self-made assets are great to see.
Thanks for submitting Pediophobia to the jam!
Interesting game, well done.
Thank you for playing our game! I am glad you liked it :)
Very spooky, I was not expecting to be chased around by evil mannequins and jumped when I died unexpectedly. Sadly, I didn't finish the game since I got frustrated and am not very good with movement. It was on me though. If you do plan to make a full-feature game, here's what I'd recommend:
1. Increase enemy visibility -- Either increase the store's brightness or increase the flashlight range. The current range is too short to make out enemies in time, and if your flashlight picks them up you're most likely already dead. Since that wasn't very helpful I mostly just squinted at the screen.
2. Enemy boundary detection -- Not a biggie, but an enemy phased through one of the clothes racks.
3. Checkpoints? -- For some noobs like me, adding a checkpoint at the bag location would be easier to repeat instead of having to walk through the entire store at first.
I do like the biker story going on. It's a unique approach to these types of games since it's mostly vulnerable store employees going through these events. In this game however it's a tough biker on a time crunch! Which made me feel like, "I DON'T GOT TIME FOR THIS, CARL'S WAITING FOR ME OUTSIDE AND I'M LATE TO MY MEETING!".
Great job! I look forward to seeing your future games!
Thank you for playing!
1. That is helpful to know, with the playtesting we might have gotten to used to seeing the character models in the dark.
2. Yeah, the collision box for the mannequins was slightly decreased by accident before the upload.
3. That is a point many people mentioned and I agree, we orginially thought the way to the bag was short enough, but adding in a checkpoint after the pickup would have been a good idea.
Thank you again for playing and I'm also looking forward to your next project and if we might see Maxwell again!
Good game! It was fun and interesting. I like the simplicity, however the audio for before you pick up a bag could be longer it kida got annoying after a bit, but it ain't a big deal since it doesn't take very long to pick up the bag. I really hope you turn this into a better full release game :D!
Thanks for playing our game! I think making the bag a checkpoint would have made things little bit better for most people.
I also understand your critic of the background sound of the first part, sadly our sound designer "ghosted" us and we were left with no audio. So what you are hearing are my fiest two original jingles that will definetly go platinum record :'D. Jokes aside, we wanted to make everything completely ourselves and besides 1 sound that was used you either hear my curtains, my death voice or me using the key at my door :D
Next time we will hopefully have a sound designer again or i will atleast have basic understanding on how to make jingles xD
Really appreciate your feedback, thanks :)
Challenging but fair. After a few deaths you get the sense on how to avoid the mannequins in each section. I noticed that the mannequins and the player move at the same speed, but the mannequins will navigate perfectly whilst you are more likely to bump into props trying to turn, so outrunning them is almost impossible without hiding. The microsoft paint end screen made me chuckle a bit. Pretty fun short game!
Thank you for playing!
Yeah, it's the first time for the both us making all assets ourself, we ran out of time for the ending slide, so I thought better to have some paint art than a grey screen xD
good pace - i like how it starts slow then gets tense. I only realised after the first try i had to hide from them, then realised they chase you and are fast, so wondered how I could turn my flashlight off, so they wouldn't see me! Too difficult for my skill level, but good job.
Thank you for playing :D
Fun but challenging game. Aesthetics and sound are great and contribute to the mood well. Like others have stated, my only request is a teleport option to the bag because the walk is so long.
Thank you for playing!
Was a solid game in my opinion, keep up the good work.
Thank you, we try to steadily improve.
Nice little game with some nice pixel art. I finally got the ending after about 10 tries lol.
Thank you for playing, we will have to consider difficulty more next time.
Really nice to play!! I love how you used a time based strategic approach to avoid the mannequins instead of outrunning them, it was super unique and the art style was very fitting!! It's also super impressive your team made all the assets and everything in a week!! :3
thank you so much for playing! I am glad that you enjoyed it! It was really stressful with all the assets, aspecially since our sound designer jumped off the project basically the day before the start :D
Such a lovely game. I love how it starts off peacefully and gradually unfolds to raise the pressure, I read the comments first and was like, "What mannequins?"then I get it. The art style is also really good and fit the vibe so well.
Thank you for playing!
Our last year entry was a hard start in media res, so we wanted to provide more build up to the action this year around, I'm glad to see that worked :D
Cool game! I like the setting and art and the controls and interactions are smooth. It's a bit punishing when you bump into the mannequins since it's instant death and you have to start over from the beginning instead of from by the bag, but I managed to get a little further with each try and enjoyed it! Good entry!
thank you for playing our game, appreciate that you like it! next time we will definetly add checkpoints to the game. Balancing such a game is really difficult.
cool pixel art! took me a couple of tries to realize that I cannot out run the monsters and I have think about timings lol :D good work! also one thing, it takes a bit long to get to the bag between tries, since you start at the door.
thanks for playing our game! Appreciate that you like the pixel art, i havent done too much yet but i really like doing it. Yea I think making the bag a checkpoint would have been a good idea. This is our second gamejam and it is really fascinating how much we have learned in these two.
I saw the mannequins on the displays and I goddamn knew it. Nice work on this, took me few tries actually and like that's mostly because the mannequins just hone in if they ever catch a sight of you, which is good but made the escape impossible for me (this might be skill issue lmao). Good work on this.
Thank you for playing!
I'm glad they but you on edge when you saw them :D
We got a few mentions that the mannequins are too aggressiv I hope it wasn't too frustrating.
I hate mannequins
Thank you for playing, our own hate for them was part of the inspiration.
Really good game, i would add more speed to the character, also a timer or something to prevent pressing to many times the E when interacting with the dialogs, besides that really liked the game
Thank you for playing.
Good art style. It's too difficult, i think. When get chased, make a turn is a guaranteed dead.
Thank you for playing.
I'm glad you like the art style.
We couldn't quite agree on how hard we wanted it to be, but I hope it wasn't too frustrating.
I hate mannequins. Good job on the game though. I do wish there were checkpoints though so I wouldn't have to repeat the same parts so frequently.
Thank you for playing, we hate mannequins too :D
In hindsight a checkpoint when the light switch went out would have been a good thing to consider.
the vibes are awesome! reminds me of those five night's at freddy's pixel art segments! great job!
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it and that we could evoked a feeling of similarity to scotts art means a lot :D
Finally beat it! Fun game, I enjoyed it!
aww thanks for playing and i am glad that you liked it
