Inviting Family Members to Visit the U.S.

Students and Scholars who desire to invite family members to visit the U.S. as tourists may use the following information to assist those family members in applying for a visa. ISSS does not provide invitation letters for family members seeking to enter the U.S. on a tourist visa (B-2).

The student or scholar will write an invitation letter to the visiting family members to explain the reason for the visit. Include the following information:

1. Reason for visit (i.e. vacation, commencement ceremony, visit child or spouse, etc.)
2. Duration of stay and approximate dates of the visit
3. Source of visitor(s)’ financial support throughout their stay (i.e. whether you will fund their trip or if they will pay for the trip themselves)
