I was recently brainstorming new Christmas cocktail recipes. When I stumbled upon some clear glass ornaments a few days ago, it hit me. Why not make a holiday martini, but serve it in a glass ornament!?

I loved the idea, but wondered if had been done before. After a quick Google and Pinterest search, I was thrilled to see it hadn’t been tackled. (I created this idea back in 2016. It’s now 2024 and there are hundreds of these. I still like to credit myself as the originator.)

Following some experimentation and decision making, the perfect seasonal martini recipe was born. Thus, I present to you the Very Merry Ornamentini! Tell me that this isn’t one of the most festive and fun martinis ever.

If you’re looking to add a little extra magic to your holiday gatherings, the Very Merry Ornamentini is the cocktail that will do it. Imagine the reaction when you bring out martinis served in glass ornaments, each filled with a vibrant red cocktail just waiting to be poured. This isn’t just a drink; it’s a holiday experience!

Ingredients

First, let’s gather up all the interments you’ll need to make this merriest of martinis!

  • Vodka: A smooth, clean base that lets the festive flavors shine; Tito’s is my go-to for its subtle warmth and quality. I typical reach for Grey Goose or Titos.
  • Orange Liqueur: Adds a hint of citrus sweetness that brightens up the cocktail and balances the rich cherry notes; Cointreau works beautifully here.
  • Cherry Juice: This gives the cocktail its stunning deep red color and adds a touch of sweetness with a slight tartness, perfect for holiday cheer.
  • Cranberry Juice: Adds a seasonal touch with its sharp, tart flavor that complements the cherry juice for a well-rounded drink.
  • Orange Juice (freshly squeezed): Fresh orange juice brings a burst of brightness, adding just the right amount of citrusy sweetness to tie everything together.
  • Sugared Cranberries: These sweet, glistening berries add a festive touch and a bit of texture, making each sip feel like a holiday celebration. My recipe for these is really simple.
  • Fresh Rosemary Sprigs: A fragrant garnish that offers a hint of herbal aroma, enhancing the overall sensory experience of this holiday cocktail.

Shop Clear Class Ornaments

You’ll also need some ornaments. That’s what makes this Christmas cocktail so special! I used glass because it’s a bit more elegant, but plastic will work too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I safely serve the cocktail in a glass ornament?

To ensure the ornament is clean and safe, rinse each one thoroughly before use. Once filled with the cocktail, secure the topper firmly. When serving, place the ornament carefully in a martini glass, nestled over the sugared cranberries, so it doesn’t roll. Encourage guests to pour slowly to avoid splashing.

Can I substitute the vodka or orange liqueur with something else?

If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, you can substitute the vodka with an equal amount of club soda or a mild, non-sweetened ginger ale. For the orange liqueur, a splash of orange juice or orange-flavored soda can work as a substitute. Remember, the flavors will change slightly, but it’ll still be delicious and festive.

How should I store any leftover cocktails or ornaments?

If you have leftover cocktail mixture, store it in a sealed container in the fridge for up to two days. Avoid leaving the mixture in the ornaments, as they’re best used for single servings. If you’ve rinsed the ornaments, dry them thoroughly before packing them away to avoid moisture damage.

What’s the best way to serve the Ornamentini at a dinner party?

For a memorable touch, you can present each ornament-filled glass at the table, then pour the cocktail over the cranberries for your guests. It adds a bit of theater to the experience and feels extra special. Or, if you prefer, set up a drink station where guests can pour their own ornaments into glasses for a more interactive setup.

  1. I love the idea of serving a beautiful red drink in martini glasses. We don’t drink alcohol. What would you recommend besides simple cranberry or cherry juice that has the lovely red color?

  2. I made this for a dinner We hosted. Bought glass balls, did sugared cranberries. It was beautiful! I have a question – where did you get that pretty cocktail shaker with gold rim? Love the martini glasses to – where did you find that shape? Brand? I think I may have found some similar. I thought there used to be a link in Pinterest post for glasses.

  3. How many servings is the recipe for? It doesn’t seem like enough to make 4 drinks. Thank you! Planning on making Tuesday for my girlfriend party!

  4. Is it regular cherry juice or tart cherry juice? Mine does not have the rich ruby red color shown in the photos. It looks more like a traditional cosmo.

    1. Any of the cherry juice I’ve used for recipes has been a really deep ruby red color. You want cherry juice, not the juice from a jar of cherries .. if that makes sense.

      xo Michael

  5. Just did this at my Christmas party, but did a simpler cocktail since I didn’t have all the ingredients with 2 oz vodka, 2 oz cranberry juice, 2 oz Trader joe’s wassail punch, but kept the garnish and cranberries, and it was a hit! We used coup glasses and it was lovely

  6. Should I be using sugar free cherry and cranberry juice? I made a new cranberry margarita recipe at Thanksgiving with organic cranberry juice-no sugar, and it was so sour. The only way I could make it palpable was to add more triple sec…ended up tasting more orange than cranberry.

All of that said, I am fine with some tartness. I’ve saved this recipe on Pinterest a couple of years ago and am excited to finally make it. Thanks!!

  7. HELP‼️‼️‼️ I’ve bought everything including martini glasses, glass balls and put everyone’s name on them, Rosemary etc., for my party tomorrow night. I sugared my cranberries.
I made up a batch and it tastes like Hawaiian Punch!!! I cannot serve that. What’s a woman to do????????

    1. There is no added sugar / syrup so it shouldn’t taste like Hawaiian Punch. Did you get 100% juice? Add more vodka / orange liquor? If you don’t like the recipe, find a martini recipe you like and serve that. I share what I make and what I enjoy. Unfortunately that will not always please everyone. I can only do so much.

      xo Michael

  8. Michael,
Your bar cart styling is perfection! I love how it looks like a lot going on but in a simple minimalistic way. You have always inspired me and I love your style. Keep up the great work!
