Due to uncertainties regarding our funding, the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Nuclear Energy Futures is at present unable to offer candidates a package of training, professional development and field trips for an October 2024 start. These activities require a level of financing beyond what is used to support a typical PhD studentship.
Discussions are still ongoing regarding a continuation of our funding to support the teaching and professional development of doctoral candidates.
However, we are advertising PhD projects on our website for two main purposes:
- To signpost candidates towards nuclear-related PhD projects that are available across the universities that comprise our Centre (Bangor University, the University of Bristol, the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and The Open University);
- In the event funding is forthcoming, to provide candidates with the opportunity to join our Centre and take part activities that will add value to your doctoral qualification.
In the case of funding being confirmed, candidates that have successfully applied to one of our advertised projects will be invited to discuss formally joining the Centre and participate in the range cohort activities that will benefit your professional development. The exact nature of the activities will be confirmed at that time.
In the case of no funding, candidates that have successfully applied to one of our advertised projects will continue their PhD as normal but without the extent & range of activities that typically defines membership of a doctoral training centre. However, alongside the activities hosted by your university's graduate school or equivalent, we will endeavour where possible to put on nuclear-related activities (e.g. site visits, seminars, conferences etc.) to provide you with additional experiences that will benefit your professional development.
Any further updates will be communicated on this webpage. Alternatively if you wish to receive updates via e-mail, as well as be informed directly of newly-advertised projects, you can request to join our mailing list by contacting Dr Jonathan Tate [email protected]
