"It was easier to pretend there wasn't a problem. Easier to believe the lie was truth. But I don't want to pretend anymore."
―Eileen

Eileen Sasaki was the CEO of the Old Ones company Atbay Global Infrastructure.

History[]

Eileen's father, Kenzo Sasaki, was founder of the influential company known as Atbay Global Infrastructure. Atbay was renowned for its work on San Francisco, which was prone to flood disasters at the time. Atbay, with the help of Netherlands-based corporation Cape Vertegaal, had segmented the city into several flood-control zones.[1]

However, in July 2047, Eileen discovered that another one of her father's projects, 'Omuramba', was contaminating city water supplies with bacteria. At her father's request, she covered up the evidence, threatening a researcher on the project via her "world-class" legal team into erasing data on Omuramba's 400+ body count.[2][3]

Leviathan[]

Three months later, Eileen talked to her father Kenzo. He assured Eileen that Leviathan, the follow-up project to Omuramba, would be more efficient and safer at a lower cost.[3] Eileen, unconvinced, decided to report the failure of Omuramba - and her father's role in it.

After the fallout, Eileen inherited the company. In recording her audio log, Eileen remarked how her father looked down on people from his office as statistics and risk factors and resolved to do better. While aware that she could not absolve her own sins, she managed to improve the Leviathan system, sparing no expense.[4]

At age 40, she received the Larsen-McCorry Award for her work on Leviathan.[5]

Legacy[]

Eileen Sasaki is posthumously revered by the Quen as one of their Ancestors: her work on Leviathan, which was constructed in the Great Delta, has made her an Ancestor of great reverence, and the Diviners have spent decades unsuccessfully attempting to restore the system.

During the Eastern Expedition, the Diviner Alva discovered the location of the research facility were Leviathan was created. Her fellow Diviner, Nirik, managed to locate the Atbay Research Center, but stopped his search upon finding a recording of Eileen's cover-up of Omuramba, something the Quen considered Forbidden knowledge. However, Alva and Aloy managed to convince him to share where he found it. With his direction, the two managed to locate Sasaki's office and learn the full story of her role in Omuramba and how she worked to redeem herself. The revelation was one of great turmoil for Alva, although it ultimately helped her to understand the complexity of the Ancestors and the morality of their actions.
