Honest Trailers - La La Land
Season 8 of Honest Trailers featured numerous significant episodes, including the critically-acclaimed La La Land Honest Trailer which parodied the envelope mix-up at the Academy Awards.
Season 8 of comedy web series Honest Trailers ran between 20 December, 2016 and 23 May, 2017. It consists of 22 episodes. Season 8 was critically well-received and nominated for several accolades, including an Emmy Award. Season 8 episode Logan won the Streamy Award for "Best Collaboration" shared with actor Ryan Reynolds. Season 8 is also when Screen Junkies celebrated 200 episodes of Honest Trailers.

Writing[]
Season 8 was written entirely by the core writing team of Spencer Gilbert, Joe Starr, Dan Murrell and Andy Signore. This season was the first time there was a stable writing team without even occasional guest writers.
Film selection[]
Like all seasons of Honest Trailers, Season 8 included many episodes based on recent blockbuster films. However, it also featured a significant number of films from the writers' childhoods. This is, in part, because Screen Junkies ran its first Fan Appreciation Month in which viewers got to vote on the subject matter for Honest Trailers. The movies selected by fans were all nostalgic favorites.
Milestones[]
- First Fan Appreciation Month: January 2017. Screen Junkies asked fans to vote on a poll to pick the subject matter for five Honest Trailers. Fan appreciation month served multiple purposes: it encouraged viewer engagement, it enabled the production team to make videos ahead of time to be released over their end-of-year break, and it gave the team subject matter during the month of January when there are traditionally few big theatrical releases.
- Guest appearances/collaborations: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory featuring singer Michael Bolton. Bolton was also credited as a producer for this season, along with his manager Christina Kline. Both Bolton and Kline were nominated for Emmy Awards for their contributions to Season 8.
- First Honest Trailers switch: La La Land/Moonlight. This video changed abruptly from parodying La La Land to parodying Moonlight, in reference to the notorious envelope mix-up at the Oscars. It is one of the most critically lauded episodes of Honest Trailers of all time.
