Overview[]
Writing[]
Unlike earlier seasons, Season 4 had a much smaller writing team. Nine people received writing credits on the season: Spencer Gilbert, Dan Murrell, Gilli Nissim, Andy Signore, Ian Weinreich, Erica Russell, Kevin Larsen, Roger Barr and Jordan VanDina. However, most episodes of Season 4 were written by the regular team of Spencer Gilbert, Dan Murrell, Erica Russell and Andy Signore.
Milestones[]
- Guest appearances/collaborations: The Little Mermaid featuring YouTube channel AVByte; The LEGO Movie featuring popular YouTube channel Epic Rap Battles; The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies featuring popular YouTube channel How It Should Have Ended.
- First Honest Teaser: for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Honest Teasers parodied trailer reaction videos. They took an actual trailer and added satirical fan commentary.
- First Honest Trailer for a prestige film: Boyhood. The video was released to coincide with the Oscars. The Boyhood Honest Trailer was a creative challenge for the writing team, because they chose not to use any parody narration at all. Instead, they used on screen text, in the style of prestige movie trailers. This format has never been repeated.
- Oldest film to be given the Honest Trailers treatment: Cinderella (1950).
- 100th episode: Fifty Shades of Grey. The Honest Trailers series reaching 100 episodes attracted press coverage.
