This article documents removed and changed content during the development of Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 and Grand Theft Auto: London 1961, mostly consisting of content from the original Grand Theft Auto that is fully functional but left unused in these expansion packs.
Original Concept[]
Debug data strings found in the .exe file for the Windows version of the game (absent in the MS-DOS versions) suggest the internal project name for GTA London 1969 was, prior to "GTAUK", originally named "GTA2". Although Grand Theft Auto 2 and the London mission packs were developed in tandem by separate studios, this suggests either the Rockstar Canada team developing London planned to call the game GTA2 with approval of DMA Design, or GTA2 was simply an internal code name to differentiate it from the base game.

Missions[]
Leftovers from GTA (1997)[]
The majority of the original Grand Theft Auto texts (bonuses, tutorials, etc.) are adapted from American English to British English to match with the character's cockney British accent (Examples: Crane Operator Dialogue). Some of the text strings from the original Grand Theft Auto's "ENGLISH.FXT
" text file are either deleted, replaced or left unused in GTA London's "ENGUK.FXT
" text file:
Bonuses[]
Text strings for the "Bitch Slappin' Bonus" from the original Grand Theft Auto (triggered during Rasta Blasta - Phone 9) are left unused in GTA London, as it is never triggered in the mission packs. The text was not adapted to the British accent and the money value was not adapted to the in-game money value (divided by 10), suggesting it was never intended to be used in GTA London.

A text string for the "Boot Camp Bonus" from the original Grand Theft Auto, triggered by running over the Army in the Vice City Military Base, is left unused in GTA London.

A text string for the "Insane Stunt Bonus" from the original Grand Theft Auto, triggered by certain ramps in the original maps, is left unused in GTA London.

A text string for the "Gratuitous Violence Bonus" from the original Grand Theft Auto, triggered by killing Mr. Johnsane during Mandarin Mayhem - Phone 8: Mission 1, is left unused in GTA London.

A text string for the "Bad Loser Bonus" from the original Grand Theft Auto, triggered by killing the Triad member during the competition in Mandarin Mayhem - Phone 6: Mission 1, is left unused in GTA London.

Weapons[]
Petrol Bomb[]
The cut "Petrol Bomb" found in the files of the original Grand Theft Auto is kept untouched and unused in GTA London. It was originally planned to appear. The ENGUK.FXT
entry for the weapon name is listed between the Flamethrower and the Speed Up power-up.

The animated pickup sprites for the Petrol Bomb are still found in the sprite sheet files. However, as the HUD icons have been updated for GTA London, the Petrol Bomb HUD icon has been removed.
Vehicles[]
Vehicles mentioned in the original Grand Theft Auto (both seen and unseen in the original game) are left unused in GTA London 1969. The sprites for the Boat and the unused Helicopter have been removed from the sprite sheet files.

Distance "by train" from the original Grand Theft Auto is left unused. There are no Trains available in GTA London.

Unused[]
Electrocution Death[]
The ability to get killed by electrocution is disabled in GTA London, as there are no electric rails to trigger this death animation. The skeleton sprites used in the death animation from the original Grand Theft Auto are left unused in the files.
Props[]
Military Base Props[]
Sprites from the Vice City Military Base, including ammunition boxes and medical supplies, are left unused in the files.
Police Barricades[]
As the police barricades used for the Wanted Level system have been disabled, the barricade props are left unused in the files.
HUD Zones from GTA (1997)[]
The London map was developed using the original Liberty City map as the base. All Liberty City zones and textures are replaced with the in-game London map. Meanwhile, the San Andreas and Vice City maps are deleted. The area names for the scrapped maps are unused in the "ENGUK.FXT
" file:

Manchester Zone Text[]
A new zone text entry for the Manchester multiplayer map is included in the "ENGE8.FXT
" file for GTA London 1961. As the HUD is disabled in multiplayer, the zone text is left unused in normal gameplay. "Manchester" is still displayed when loading the multiplayer map in the menu.

Phone Mission Test[]
Pretty Charlie's quote from the introduction of Mods and Sods - Phonebox 1 is repeated 20 times at the end of the "ENGUK.FXT
" file. The last line is incomplete.
