Hi API testers,

We have started an experiment for Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement via the Attribution Reporting API. Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement allows attribution events on the mobile web to be joinable with events in Android’s Privacy Sandbox.

What does this mean for me?

Testers may see a new header (Attribution-Reporting-Support) that specifies whether Cross App and Web Attribution is available.

If the Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement use case is of interest to you, consider experimenting with it by registering for the origin trial and reviewing the web explainer and the Android explainer. Keep in mind that:

  • The trial will be rolling out on Chrome Canary & Chrome Dev channels on Android 13 devices early this week. The privacy-sandbox-ads-apis flag can also be used to enable the feature locally.

  • We plan to make the trial available to Chrome Beta and Stable channels in the coming weeks. We will update this thread as this happens.

  • Currently, either the Cross App and Web Origin Trial token or the Privacy Sandbox Relevance and Measurement Origin Trial token is required for Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement functionality.

  • While General Availability is planned for the relevance and measurement APIs in Chrome 115, Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement is not currently planned to hit general availability with Chrome 115. The Cross App and Web Origin Trial token will still be required at that time.

If the Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement use case is not of interest to you, you may still see the new Attribution-Reporting-Support header. You can ignore the header.

Hi all,

We are still ramping the Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement trial on Chrome Stable throughout August, limited to Android 13 devices. Please note that while General Availability is planned for the relevance and measurement APIs in Chrome 115, Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement is not currently planned to hit general availability with Chrome 115. The Cross App and Web Origin Trial token will still be required.

We are also starting ramp of Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement on WebView pre-release channels and will expand to stable in the coming weeks. This ramp will include the ability to register an app attribution source from WebView (that is, an attribution source associated with the app) and/or a web trigger from WebView (that is, a trigger associated with the origin of the site shown in WebView). In other words, the use case supported with this ramp is specifically app-to-web; functionality to register a web attribution source from WebView will be supported in later releases. Please note that:

Hi all,

We are planning to ship the Cross App and Web Attribution Measurement feature in Chrome 123 (stable release in mid-March). The origin trial token will no longer be required for Chrome 123 and beyond.

This feature will be shipped on all platforms, though we expect Android WebView to have a slower rollout. The feature is currently ramped to:
  • Chrome: 50% pre-stable channels, 99% stable on all Android versions
  • WebView: 50% pre-stable and stable on Android 13+. 50% pre-stable and 1% stable on Android 12-.
  • Note that availability also depends on the feature in Android
If you experience any issue or have any implementation questions on these new features, please file an issue in our Attribution Reporting API repository.
