Graduate Fellowships
Supporting Graduate Students
Corporate sponsorship of graduate fellowships allows industry leaders to work closely with the nation's top graduate students and faculty to provide ideas for research projects that align with the most relevant problems facing the private sector.
Fellowship options
Graduate fellowships in The Grainger College of Engineering serve to attract some of the world’s most qualified graduate students and match them with Illinois’ preeminent faculty in engineering. By working with us, you will have opportunities to cultivate strong relationships with students that may result in summer internships or long-term employment opportunities. In addition to corporate sponsorship of individual fellowships in specific areas of interest to your company, the following graduate fellowship programs are designed to help maintain the diversity of the student population in Grainger Engineering:
- The Support for Underrepresented Groups in Engineering (SURGE) Fellowship Program seeks to increase the number of people qualified for engineering faculty and research positions from groups currently underrepresented in engineering.
- As part of its effort to achieve diversity in its graduate programs, the college holds its Multi-Cultural Engineering Recruitment for Graduate Education (MERGE) program each fall. MERGE brings promising graduate school prospects from diverse cultures to the campus for an expense-paid, in-depth view of the outstanding programs and facilities available for graduate study at Illinois. Previous MERGE programs have hosted over 570 students from 85 universities across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
