Struct components can hold state as normal fields in their struct and read/write to them in the various lifecycle methods.

I'm guessing there is some confusion with "hooks" and their version of state management, i.e. use_state etc. Hooks are not accessible from struct components and you will need to wrap or HOC around them if you want use them with struct components.
