Agenda for this meeting
Possible adoption or support of the "Japanese Script Resources page" structure
Richard Ishida from the W3C Internationalization Working Group has raised a GitHub issue mentioning that a "Japanese Script Resources page" is being created. There has been a request to the JLReq TF to consider adopting the structure of the Script Resources page in jlreq-d, or, if this is not appropriate, to link the relevant sections of the Script Resources page to the chapters or sections of jlreq-d. We will discuss this.
Creating a separate "Writing Meeting"
Regarding the future approach to writing. During the previous meeting, I felt that it was somewhat inefficient to have all participants in the Zoom meeting involved in the details of writing. Therefore, I propose that in the future, the detailed writing and editing should be handled by those responsible for the task, while the Task Force meetings focus on higher-level discussions—specifically, what should be written—and reviews. We will discuss this.
The Layout Model of Japanese Characters
I would like to review the model for Japanese text composition and what should be written there. Here, I would like to separate the discussion on Japanese text composition from the discussion on mixed text and baselines, which will be addressed later.
1. Possible Adoption or Support of the "Japanese Script Resources Page" Structure
It was concluded that adopting the chapter structure directly in jlreq-d would be inappropriate for the following reasons:
Therefore, we discussed creating corresponding sections within jlreq-d to which the relevant items from the Script Resources page could be linked.
The results of the discussion can be found in discussion.
2. Creating a separate "Writing Meeting"
We agreed to separate the detailed discussions on writing into separate editorial meetings. The Task Force meetings will focus on higher-level discussions, specifically what should be written, and on reviews.
Meetings will be organized via the mailing list. The location will be the conference room at Bin-sensei’s apartment (in Kanda).
The conference room incurs a cost of around 1,000 yen per session, but according to Shiono-san, W3C has no budget for this. It was decided that the participants would share the cost for now. There is also a possibility that the W3C Japan office could be used.
3. The Layout Model of Japanese Characters
Based on the discussions in the previous meeting and via email, we agreed to use the term "body," derived from metal type, to describe the outer frame of characters and to use this concept to describe Japanese text composition. The body is a rectangle that includes the character face and the designed margins on all sides. Its height equals the point size.
The following descriptions will be included in Chapter 3:
