Using Unpoly, you can have the same page (url) shown direct or in overlay:
=> There are some scenarios, where it would be very advantageous to "remember" the state of where an url was opened (direct or in overlay)
Usability Examples/User stories:
a user duplicates a tab (e.g. in chrome via RMB on browsertab-> "duplicate tab") while exploring the website to comeback later to this page.
What happen:
the duplicated tab looks different and it is not trivial to see and understand, that he sees the same content/form -just not in an overlay as before.
Consequences:
you made the user think (famous advice: don’t make users think..) but he understands it or
user didn’t get it, think something is broken and leave...
asking a colleague for help to fill in data to a form presented in an overlay: via messenger: "Hi Pete, can you help me with this? +url"
in this case:
being opened in colleague browser also in an separate overlay gives some context/help to understand what to do/how it works: fill in the data, close (save) the overlay and you are done
when parallel calling about what to do/what to fill in, you and your colleague see different things and its not trivial to understand and agree that this is the same form
