They are consistent. They have a specific meaning that doesn't change.

If you hover your mouse over the button, a tooltip should show up.

A check mark means that a song has matched Beat Saber maps. If it's green, it means you haven't clicked on it yet.
A yellow question mark means there are some maps found, but they don't perfectly match. It's always yellow, if you click on it you "accept" the search result as either matched or unmatched, so it changes.
An "X" symbol means that a track has no matching maps. It shows up until you click on it. When you do, it then shows only when you hover over the song.
A "no entry" symbol means "not interested", if the matched Beat Saber maps were marked as "not interesting" by you. For example, maps that are too fast/too slow or just not good can be marked this way.
A "download" icon means that the song is already downloaded as a Beat Saber custom level.

Generally, clicking on an icon means that you've reviewed the search results and you accept them. The "search result" can either be matching or non matching. The color of the icons is then removed, so that new songs are more visible to review manually. In particular, the yellow question mark stands out because it contains unconfirmed matches.
