This is an unfinished proposal for resolving Issue #3746. It cannot be merged as it is, because it is not configurable and i haven't run any performance tests. Also, I haven't grasped the design yet, so I don't know if this is a good way to implement it. But if anyone wants to try it out, I publish it here.
