Website (required)

VocaDB

Describe the bug (required)

Similar to the issue describing hyperlinks looking too similar to text, the issue I'm personally having is that links you haven't opened yet in your messages look far too similar to links that you have.

Screenshots (optional)

An unvisited link:

A visited link:

(and I outright might have gotten these screencaps mixed up, or it could even be the same one, I'm not sure, because it's legitimately hard for me to tell)

Desktop (optional)

  • OS: Windows
  • Browser: Firefox

Additional context (optional)

It is especially annoying when you get multiple messages for the same song. The use-case that I keep running into is that:

  • Someone has tagged the same song with multiple tags, but too slowly (or too few?) for them to be bundled up into a "multiple tags" message, so I get back to back messages;
  • The above is indistinguishable from someone tagging covers or remixes of a given track back-to-back from each other, or the original, because the messages don't mention the song type either and these items almost always have exactly the same name.
  • So then to be safe, I end up opening the links in all the messages in new tabs and often end up with duplicates that now I need to cull. It's really tedious when I have 100+ notifications in my inbox to comb through 😃 It hurts my eyes to squint so hard trying to tell if I've visited a page already.

This also applies as well to any links on song entries, or even the register link on the login page. It is a little less annoying there, in part because it's easier to tell the links apart if they're right next to each other (eg, tags).

Suggestion: if color change is infeasible, perhaps use some form of text decoration for opened links, such as underlining, or different text styling entirely (such as font-weight: bold for unopened links).

Checklist (required)

Fill out the checklist. Use strikethroughs or leave fields empty if you don't know or are unable to check/test.

- [ ] Searched VocaDB/vocadb for duplicate issues. The closest item I came across was the aforementioned issue about links as a whole looking too similar to text.
- [ ] Tested on the beta site. I couldn't log into this and the site was extremely slow. But, the account links (to register on the login page) display the same.
- [ ] Tested on different browsers (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Edge). Firefox is the one I use primarily but I also looked at this in Edge and Chrome.
- [ ] Checked in private mode.
- [ ] Cleared browser cache and cookies. Unless this has changed very recently (eg, cached CSS files), this is also not applicable. I don't believe it has because I haven't come across another issue report like this :) Additionally, this site was not cached in Edge or Chrome when I loaded it up there as I had never visited this site before on either of those browsers (which are largely just around for an occasional Selenium script).
- [ ] Checked the DevTools console. This is a CSS issue. There is nothing to check in console.

  • Checked the syslog (mods+ only).
