GTK-based build for macOS? #6321

In theory it could be possible to run it, but it's not something we'd support. Whether all the 3rd party libraries still support it is unknown. Even if they do compile, they may no longer have optimisations. It's likely a lot of work and there is functionality that won't work or won't work well due to lack of system resources on systems that old. I.e Anything other than the older codecs is probably a non-starter. |

@sr55 Hopefully no special support will be required. GTK software which specifically targets macOS often has issues (due to usage of quartz, which uses Cocoa, which is broken), but “normal” (i.e. X11-based) should just work.
Looking at what FreeBSD has as dependencies, everything builds in lastest versions and presumably work. (Well, I did not run test-suites, but my video playback software on powerpc uses the latest ffmpeg etc.) |

Description of the feature or enhancement you'd like to see in HandBrake
Is there any reason for GTK version not to work on macOS?
Why bother: Cocoa will be hopelessly broken for older macOS, but there is no reason to want Cocoa specifically. Native build for macOS PPC are archaic, 0.9.5 seems to have been the last one, but with GTK we can probably get the latest version to work.
I am asking first, since this is a rather huge thing, and making a port for it is involving. If it is known that there is a stopper, it is better to know in advance and not waste time.
But normally GTK stuff works fine. GTK4 has bugs, but can be made to work, GTK3 is rather robust.
