Masters techs to slow and damage opponents.

Description

Appearance[]

The Soldier is, unsurprisingly, a soldier equipped for simple melee combat. They wear a blue tunic, a blue beret, a pair of bluish-gray shorts and white boots. A breastplate is attached to the front of their torso and a red cape also dangles behind them. Enemy Soldiers have red clothes instead of blue.

Profile[]

Soldier is a job in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance exclusive to humes. The Soldier is the basic melee unit of the humes with great HP and Attack growth, but low Magic and Resistance. Soldiers can use their Battle Techs to heal themselves, or alter the stats of their opponents. Soldiers are only useful in the beginning of the game, as they quickly become outclassed by the more advanced jobs. Marche and a fellow hume clan member start out as Soldiers.

The Warrior job is the bangaa version of the Soldier job, but with a slightly altered action ability.

Stat growths[]

The Soldier has high HP, Attack and Defense, with low MP, Magic Power, and Resistance. It has average Speed.

Overview[]

FFTA Sensor

Sensor.

Soldier is possibly the worst class in the game, tied with the Warrior. They have high HP, respectable attack and defense, but little else. With bad MP growth and magic power, they can't use spells to any effect. Soldiers are locked to melee weapons, and the class lacks ranged abilities (besides Sensor, which deals no damage). While Sensor can be useful, the Mog Knight's Mog Peek is similar, with Mog Knight being overall a superior class.

FFTA Provoke

Provoke.

Soldier has average speed. While not slow, it will not act first. Soldier has four useful abilities that lower an opponent's stats, but being unable to wield ranged weapons means these support abilities will never become ranged in their Soldier class. Instead of buffs, Soldier's best techs are the following three. Mug, stealing a few coins of gil while dealing nearly as much damage as Fight, serves as a Reaction-bypass (example: Reflex) and a Fight-law loophole. Provoke is useful, but moogle Jugglers have the superior Firebomb. First Aid can heal nigh-any status problem, like poison and immobilize, though the Paladin's Nurse leaves this Battle Tech useless in the case. While a Soldier's defense is decent, its low resistance makes them weak against mages, unable to survive even with their high HP. The real loss with the Soldier is that, as a beginner class before not one, but two useful classes, the only truly useful abilities available wind up only available later on, leaving upgrade-Soldiers—like Marche—forced to learn the near-useless Speedbreak in the beginning of the game.

Enemy Soldiers are easy to kill, as almost any kind of mage or class with ranged abilities can dispatch of them quickly. Their lack (usually, but not always) of the only abilities that make Soldiers painful to fight leaves them more open than ally Soldiers. Being able to destroy MP, induce Berserk and heal statuses, high level Soldiers or any possessors of said Battle Techs can be a hideous stall if not taken care of quickly.

Etymology[]

A soldier is one who fights as part of an organized, land-based, sea-based or air-based armed force. A soldier can be an enlisted person, a non-commissioned officer, or an officer in the Army. In the case of enlistment, this puts in place the Soldier's greenhorn status before becoming a higher-level militant.
