The Guard Scorpion (ガードスコーピオン, Gādosukōpion?), also known as the Magitek Scorpion or Scorpion Sentinel, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy VII. It is a heavily armed guard robot that resembles a scorpion by design as it has six legs and a long tail.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy VII[]
The Guard Scorpion appears as the first boss, encountered by Cloud and Barret in the No. 1 Reactor during "No. 1 Reactor Bombing". A misleading battle message has Cloud tell the player to attack Guard Scorpion while its tail is raised, but doing so will always cause it to use Tail Laser, a counter-attack which deals large damage to the entire party. This is its only strong attack.
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-[]
The Guard Scorpion appears as a boss in Junon while Zack Fair is pursuing Dr. Hollander, and during the mission "Enemy Attack Prevention". It still displays the iconic attacks Target Search and Tail Laser, though poses more of a threat than its original incarnation.
Final Fantasy VII G-Bike[]
Final Fantasy VII Remake[]
The Scorpion Sentinel appears as the first boss, encountered in the Core of No. 1 Reactor. The battle requires quick reflexes in looking out for visual cues for when the Scorpion Sentinel will use its attacks and abilities.
Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier[]
The Guard Scorpion (25th) appeared as a boss exclusive to FFVII 25th Anniversary Collab. It was an intentionally blocky model serving as a callback to the graphical style of the original game. Blanket Orders would be issued when it spawns. It resisted everything but Thunder and used the same abilities it used in Final Fantasy VII.
The Scorpion Sentinel from Final Fantasy VII Remake also appeared as a boss with the same weakness. A special field spawned around it, making combat between candidates outside and inside impossible.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
The Magitek Scorpion appears as the first boss encountered in Ala Mhigo, the final dungeon of Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood. It also serves as the basis of the Scorpion enemy family, which appears most frequently in the Save the Queen: Blades of Gunnhildr storyline.
Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia[]
The Guard Scorpion from Final Fantasy VII appeared as a boss.
Pictlogica Final Fantasy[]
The Guard Scorpion from Final Fantasy VII appears as a boss.
Final Fantasy Record Keeper[]
The Guard Scorpion from Final Fantasy VII appears as the boss of Mako Reactor No. 1, the first dungeon available to new players.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]
The Guard Scorpion from Final Fantasy VII appears as a boss during the "Destroy the Reactor" crossover event.
War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]
The Scorpion Sentinel appears during the Final Fantasy VII Remake collaboration. The Sentinel is featured as the event's boss as well as a summonable Vision Card and Esper. As a Vision Card, Scorpion Sentinel boosts AoE Resistance, Critical Damage, Slash Attack and Water Resistance of equipped Lightning units, as well as boost ATK, Critical Hit Rate to Lightning units in the same party and Slash Resistance if the card is at Max Lvl.
As an Esper, the Scorpion Sentinel focuses on Slash Attack, Lightning Attack, Slash Resistance, Missile Resistance, Lightning Resistance, Water Killer, Machine Killer, Critical Rate and Critical Damage. It's evocation attack is Tail Laser, a Lightning Missile Attack to a single target which decreases Missile Resistance to the target and activates a field which imperils Lightning Resistance to all enemies and boosts ATK/MAG of all party units with a larger boost to Lightning Units.
Mobius Final Fantasy[]
Variations of the Guard Scorpion from Final Fantasy VII appeared as bosses during the Eclipse Contact crossover event. It could be obtained as light- or dark-elemental ability cards that granted the Flash Grenade, Satellite Beam, Blade Beam, or Lightdance abilities.
Etymology[]
Scorpions are predatory arachnids of the order Scorpiones. They have eight legs and are easily recognized by the pair of grasping pedipalps and the narrow, segmented tail, often carried in a characteristic forward curve over the back, ending with a venomous stinger.
