Thorsten Schumm is an experimental quantum physicist, working towards a new type of high precision clock for satellite navigation and fundamental research. He was born in Berlin in 1975, where he studied Physics and Philosophy. For his Diploma in physics, he moved to Innsbruck in 1999 to work with Anton Zeilinger (Nobel price 2022). The PhD was a bi-national thesis in Heidelberg and Paris 2002-2005, in the Group of Alain Aspect (Nobel price 2022). After a short PostDoc in Toronto, he moved to Vienna in 2006, where he became professor in 2011.
Thorsten Schumm is a 2024 Falling Walls Winner in the Physical Sciences category.
