Shortly after cohosts Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and Hoda Kotb introduced a performance from the cast of Riverdance 30 — The New Generation stage show, one of the dancers leading the set slipped and fell on the visibly wet ground. Guthrie led the segment by indicating that the troupe was "bringing the luck of the Irish to our parade," as the dancers took their positions to perform for the cameras. While they danced, a virtual river of water flowed behind the dancers near the sidewalk, carrying what appeared to be leaves and confetti that was earlier launched into the air at the start of the parade. The Riverdance production celebrated the upcoming performance earlier this week on Instagram, with the group's official account sharing excitement over the news. "We are so excited to perform at the Macy’s Day Parade tomorrow. This is a very special Riverdance performance because we are joined by guest dancers of all ages from across the country. This is going to be magical," the post read, alongside footage of dancers rehearsing. "We are so thankful." Rain poured over the event through most of NBC's telecast Thursday morning, with weather forecasts calling for moderate rain to last through around 3 p.m. local time. Other performances and special appearances throughout the 2024 edition included Joey McIntyre, Chloë, Jimmy Fallon, T-Payne, Broadway icon Lea Salonga, Jennifer Hudson, and Kylie Minogue.
