EW's editorial guidelines Published on October 20, 2023 04:42PM EDT A Connecticut restaurant told crazed Taylor Swift fans they needed to calm down after false reports circulated about the pop star dining there with her rumored beau, Travis Kelce. Hundreds of Swifties spent hours outside Elm Restaurant in downtown New Canaan on Thursday afternoon amid hearsay that Swift was dining inside with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. They weren't. But their scarecrows were there. Yes, their scarecrows. Two effigies dressed like Swift and Kelce, which had been made for an upcoming festival put on by the Young Women's League of New Canaan, are thought to have sparked the pandemonium. A manager at the restaurant told the local outlet Daily Voice she believed that a "mom started the rumor and then it just went crazy." "I swear Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are not here and were not here," the manager said. "I would tell you if they were." Reached by phone Friday, an assistant manager at Elm declined to comment further on the debacle to EW. Another variation of the rumor said Swift and Kelce were dining with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, who own a home in nearby Westchester County. As for Swift's whereabouts Thursday, she was spotted grabbing dinner with pals Selena Gomez and Zoë Kravitz on the opposite side of the country, in Los Angeles. The pop star is set to drop her next re-release album, 1989 (Taylor's Version), on Oct. 27, which will feature five new vault tracks. She's also riding high on the success of her Eras Tour concert film, in theaters now. Related content: Will Taylor Swift's Eras Tour film get a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars?
