Watch Drew Barrymore dress up as the Fonz while interviewing Henry Winkler on talk show: 'Ayyy, Henry!'

Ayyyy! Henry Winkler got a visit from a special someone on Friday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. 

The actor was speaking with host Drew Barrymore when she appeared onscreen dressed up as his Happy Days character Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli to ask him a series of questions as part of the talk show’s recurring segment, the Fast Five.

“Ayyy, Henry. It's the Fonz here, and I'm here to ask you a few questions for the Fast Five,” Barrymore said, channeling Winkler’s cool character by sporting a black leather jacket, greaser-style wig, and white t-shirt from a set that looked similar to the iconic Arnold's Drive-In. “What would Arthur Fonzarelli be up to in 2024?”

Winkler knew exactly what his lovable greaser would be up to in the present day. “Good question. What would he be up to?” he said. “He would own, he would own a franchise of garages. That's what I'm thinking.”

The Faux Fonz then asked Winkler what all men should know about how to properly treat a lady. “This, I know for sure,” he declared. “Do not snap your fingers at a woman. It worked on TV, but they will break your fingers. Yeah, that is not great.”

He also revealed that he still has one of Fonzie’s original leather jackets from filming the series from 1974 until 1984. 

“They built me five, and we ripped out the lining of one of the jackets in order to go water skiing in order to jump the shark,” Winkler explained, referencing Fonzie’s legendary stunt that saw him jump over a shark on a pair of water skis during the show’s fifth season. “So I got two jackets: one of them I had auctioned off, and one of them I still have.”

His reference to the jump couldn't have been more perfectly timed, because Barrymore’s Fonz then asked Winkler if he was aware that he’d actually jumped over the shark when he was filming the scene all those years ago.

“No, nor did I care, because we were number one for many years after that,” he said of the show’s lasting success. “And you know, people read newspapers and every time they mentioned 'jump the shark,' they had a picture of me water skiing. And at that time I had great legs.” 

Winkler’s Fonzie initially started out as a recurring character on the first season of Happy Days, but became such a hit with viewers that he was quickly bumped to main cast status. Just last month, he and his Happy Days costar Ron Howard reunited to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary during a segment at the 2024 Emmys, where they presented the award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series to The Bear’s Christopher Storer.
