Dancing With the Stars recap: Oscars night ends in the first double elimination of the season

All that glitters is gold.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dancing With the Stars season 33, episode 2, "Oscars Night."

I think I’ve seen this film before, and I didn’t like the ending. (Because there was a double elimination!)

It's Oscars night on Dancing With the Stars, the first theme night of the season, and the stars paid homage to classic Hollywood films and newer favorite flicks.

The night started out with a peek onto the chaotic DWTS Oscars red carpet. First up on the dance floor was The Bachelorette star Jenn Tran, who danced a challenging tango to "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" from The Great Gatsby. While the challenge in ballroom dances usually comes from the choreographed steps, this time around Jenn and parter Pasha's problem was the music. A mishap in the ballroom led to the couple dancing their tango without the music being audible in the room, as the judges all commented. They managed to pull it off, scoring a 19 out of 30.

Convicted scammer Anna Delvey took some time to reflect on her DWTS experience so far, noting the hardest thing about dancing is "jumping around," which she did quite a bit of in her quickstep to KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See" from The Devil Wears Prada. Delvey's bestie Julia Fox paid her and partner Ezra a visit during rehearsals, and reminded viewers that have been quick to judge Delvey and should show her a little grace.

Building on the stellar performance she gave last week, Disney star Chandler Kinney danced a rumba to "What Was I Made For?" from Barbie, and received the highest score of the night, 24 out of 30.

Yippee-ki-yay! Reginald VelJohnson paid tribute to his star-making role in Die Hard and to his costar Bruce Willis by dancing a paso doble to "Ode to Joy" while wearing a police uniform. "It was my first big film that I was in," VelJohnson said. "It was an experience I’ll never forget. [Willis] was very kind to me in my first major role. I thanked him for that, I always will."

Superman or Stephen? When the glasses are off, it's hard to tell the difference! Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik channeled Superman for his foxtrot and received his first 8, but judge Bruno Tonioli warned the caped crusader that while his dances lift everyone's spirits up, he needs to channel his excited energy a bit better in the coming weeks.

And speaking of lifting up, for olympic rugby player Ilona Maher's Dirty Dancing-inspired salsa, it was lift or be lifted. Ilona and partner Alan completed multiple complicated lifts throughout their lively routine, including lifting each other, which earned them praise from the judges.

But in the end, 90210 star Tori Spelling and Anna Delvey left DWTS without an Oscar and without the Mirrorball Trophy. Instead of thanking the Academy, or really anyone, Delvey left the show on a truly poignant note. When host Julianne Hough asked the ever elusive socialite what she was going to take from doing the show she replied, "Nothing."
