Now more than ever, it's clear the New York Giants need to make a change at the quarterback position following a disappointing 20-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany on Sunday.

There are expectations that the Giants could switch to backup QB Drew Lock for the remainder of this season following their Week 11 bye due to the injury clauses in Daniel Jones' contract if he were to miss time down the stretch.

Regardless, it's highly likely the starting quarterback for this team next season is not on this roster yet and will be used on a high draft pick come the 2025 NFL Draft.

With the NFL season past the halfway point, football fans -- especially those whose teams are at the bottom such as the Giants -- look to mock drafts to see the upcoming possibilities of what a franchise will do with their first-round selection in late April.

Here are a few projections as to who the Giants could select as they currently hold the No. 2 overall pick:

USA TODAY: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

It should be no surprise at this point, a majority of mock drafts have the Giants pinned on taking Shedeur Sanders, the youngest son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders -- his current head coach at the University of Colorado -- with the No. 2 overall pick.

Here's what USA TODAY's NFL associate editor Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz had to say on Sanders:

"Deion Sanders' claim regarding his son's draft outlook in March that 'it's gonna be an Eli (Manning)' would take on new meaning in this scenario. Should Big Blue pursue another football blue blood, the pairing could be fruitful for each side. With coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen expected to return in 2025, the Giants would be able to turn the page on Daniel Jones' tenure by installing a poised passer who can dice defenses apart with precision strikes from the pocket."

CBS Sports: Cam Ward, QB, Miami (FL)

It's a different signal caller here for Big Blue as CBS's Josh Edwards went with Cam Ward, the senior standout who has led the Hurricanes to one of their best seasons in recent memory:

"Daniel Jones' tenure in New York has likely come to an end. The Giants can not afford to continue playing him and risk the possibility of him getting hurt, which would trigger future guarantees. Cam Ward is not an unblemished prospect, but he has willed the Hurricanes to multiple wins this season and the organization is prepared to make a fresh start."

Sporting News: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

Colorado's Shedeur Sanders escapes pressure from Texas Tech in a Big 12 football game Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Another mock, another Sanders selection as Sporting News Vinnie Iyer also tabbed the G-Men with drafting Sanders as the first QB off the board:

"Daniel Jones' rollercoaster ride with coach Brian Daboll keeps going back down for stretches after limited peaks. Jones' work and the Giants' struggles might lead to Daboll not returning, but whoever's in charge of the offense would lobby to replace Jones with Sanders. The Colorado star is separating himself from other QBs as the most polished pocket passer, one who can fit right into the Giants' youth movement vibe with WR Malik Nabers, RB Tyrone Tracy Jr., TE Theo Johnson."
