Upstate honors service of America's veterans at Fluor Field in Greenville, 'a special day'

Because of rainy weather, many Veterans Day events, such as a military flyover and other events planned on Fluor Field on Sunday could not be done.

However, many came out to show their respect for the men and women of America who wore the military uniform. Over the weekend, veterans' celebrations took place all across the Upstate.

The South Carolina Veterans Upstate Salute, held at Fluor Field in Greenville on Sunday, Nov. 10, honored the nation's veterans.

Veterans Day is today, Nov. 11, 2024.

One of the veterans was Bob Baisley, who said his home was in West Palm Beach but now lives in Greenville.

"This day honors those of us that came back home. We are so glad to be back home when so many of us did not come back," he said. "This is a special day. It is not Memorial Day. This is a day for veterans."

Veterans Day Monument Dedication Ceremony

All ill and injured veterans will be celebrated at the Veterans Day Monument Dedication Ceremony, hosted by the Frank Montgomery #3 Disabled Veterans (DAV). The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Veteran's Pointe Memorial Park (81 West Park Drive, Spartanburg). After the ceremony, guests can look forward to refreshments.

Spartanburg Veterans Day Parade

This annual parade, which will take place on Nov. 11, will start at 4 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and continue down Church Street, ending at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. DAV also hosts this event.
