If you want to order a takeout Thanksgiving meal, you have plenty of choices, as long as you plan ahead. Grocery stores and chain restaurants including Wegmans, Tops Friendly Markets, Costco, Whole Foods Market, Texas de Brazil, Denny's and Cracker Barrel are among the options.
In addition, Rochester-area restaurants, caterers and bakeries are cooking up traditional feasts, vegan dinners, sides and desserts. Here's a selection of those options.
Heat-and-eat Thanksgiving dinners
Avvino will offer fully cooked packages, $200, that include a 10- to 12-pound whole organic turkey, apple cider gravy, cranberry sauce, autumn salad, rigatoni with Sunday sauce, caramelized Brussels sprouts, sausage stuffing, potato puree, rolls and butter. Boogies Chicken, 366 Thurston Road, is offering Thanksgiving catering packages that include full pans of a choice of two meats, three sides and cornbread for $475. Dishes may also be ordered individually. Choices include baked turkey; fried, baked, grilled or jerk chicken; fried fish; roast vegetables; collard greens with smoked turkey; candy yams; mac & cheese; dirty rice; baked ziti and green beans. Chef's Catering is offering meals for 6 people ($200) as well as single-serve meals ($28.95). The meal for 6 includes turkey breast and dark meat; turkey gravy; cranberry sauce; mashed potatoes, green bean casserole; Italian sausage stuffing; roasted butternut squash; rolls and butter. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, 99 Court St., is offering a turkey dinner for 8 to 12 for $260. It includes a turkey, gravy, cornbread stuffing, whipped sweet potatoes and two pies (choose from pumpkin, key lime or chocolate icebox). A half-turkey package for 3 to 5 people is $135, and you may also purchase just turkey and gravy for $170. Order online in advance as quantities are limited. Pick up on Nov. 26 or 27.
Giuseppe's, 50 Spencerport Road in Gates, will offer a family-style Thanksgiving buffet ($300) that feeds 15 to 20 for $300. It will include turkey, garlic parmesan mashed potatoes, gravy, Italian green beans, sausage and apple stuffing, cranberry relish, a tossed salad, baked ziti and dinner rolls with butter. Good Smoke BBQ & Pub will offer a smoked turkey breast dinner with gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry chutney and pumpkin cornbread for $21.99 per person plus tax, with a minimum order of four people. Public Provisions and Flower City Bread Co. will center its Thanksgiving meals on deboned fresh turkeys from Fisher Hill farms. A dinner that easily feeds 12, $299, includes a whole turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted veggies, cranberry sauce, gravy and a pack of dinner rolls. The Lake House on Canandaigua, 770 S. Main St. in Canandaigua, offers a Thanksgiving feast for 8 for $300 (18-lb. turkey) or $325 (22-lb. strip loin of beef). Sides include a local greens salad, roasted pumpkin bisque, buttermilk mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade stuffing, cranberry-orange compote, sweet potatoes with marshmallow, pastries, breads and rolls. Vegetarian and vegan heat-and-eat Thanksgiving dinners
The Red Fern is offering a individual vegan, gluten friendly and allergy friendly meals, family-style main dishes, side dishes and desserts. Among the dinner choices is vegan, nut-free maple sage glazed turkeyless drumsticks, yam mash, garlic roasted green beans, cheddar herb biscuit and garlic butter ($18). Grass Fed Rochester, a vegan butcher shop and deli, is offering whole and half roasts that mimic the texture and flavor of a traditional turkey. Farmhouse Table will offer Thanksgiving desserts and side dishes. Desserts ($25 to $30) include maple pumpkin pie, apple crumb pie, salted honey pie, vinegar pie and pumpkin roll with cream cheese frosting. Scratch Bakeshop, 41 Russell St., will offer 9-inch deep dish pies in traditional, gluten-free and vegan versions. Flavors include apple crumb, bourbon chocolate pecan, chocolate chip cookie, chocolate meringue, lemon meringue, peanut butter, mixed berry crumble, pumpkin, key lime coconut and apple double crust.
