Why is Japanese pop culture all the rage in France? • FRANCE 24 English
As the 77th Cannes Film Festival gets underway, where Japanese anime studio – Studio Ghibli – is being awarded the honorary Palm d'Or, we take a look at Japanese pop culture that has become all the rage in France. Founded by Hayao Miyazaki in 1985, Studio Ghibli has produced films like 'the Boy and the Heron', 'Spirited Away' and 'Princess Mononoke'. But why has Japanese anime become so popular in France? Seeking to gain and maintain its influence, Japan has since WWII adopted a soft-power strategy which focuses on the export of its pop culture including manga, video games, cosplay and anime. FRANCE 24's Ethan Hajji and Lauren Bain report.

Japanese Pop Culture is Saving the Countryside | The HELLO KITTY Plan ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Japan has a problem. More and more tourists are visiting but very few of them leave the trail between Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.

Japan has a problem. More and more tourists are visiting but very few of them leave the trail between Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
Well, one company has a plan to help revitalize Japan's aging and declining population and countryside. Use Japanese Pop Culture to turn heads and bring attention to one of Japan's most beautiful and relatively unknown spot in Kansai, Awaji Island.
Awaji Island has no train stations.
There is very little tourist infrastructure.
What do they have? Rice paddies, onion fields, lots of green hills surrounded by the sea -- and now, Hello Kitty!
Recently opened Hello Kitty Show Box is a strange sight from the air. It's surrounded by farm pastures and well, just doesn't seem to fit, which is why it's perfect! It's 100% and unequivocally ONLY in JAPAN!
Where is the Hello Kitty Show Box?

URL: https://awajiresort.com/hellokittyshowbox
By BUS: Awaji IC (Awaji Interchage) is the main access point on the island. There are buses hat leave from Osaka Station, Kansai Airport, Kobe (Sannomiya Station) and Shin-Kobe Station.
It takes about 45 to 90 minutes to get there. At Awaji IC, there are free shuttle buses to all the attractions. Links: https://www.awaji-kotsu.co.jp/en/ (get off at Awaji IC)
By FERRY (Awaya Port) there's a shuttle bus: https://awajiresort.com/hellokittyshowbox/wp-content/themes/hellokittyshowbox/pdf/shuttlebus20190819.pdf https://youtu.be/HAqQSlYilug
We stayed at the Grand Chariot for a night.
The Hello Kitty Smile is a shirt trip from the Show Box on the coast.
Thank you to the Pasona Group for the help, talking about their plans and ambitious goals to help revitalize a beautiful area of Japan. Keep up the great work!

We are exploring the Harajuku, this is one of the most kawaii areas of Tokyo Japan. But before we get to the cute stuff we’ll explore the beautiful and historic Meiji shrine. We’ll start the morning with coffee featuring the most amazing 3d latte art from Cafe Reissue. On the iconic Takeshita street, we’ll try a bunch of the cute desserts, from sugar glazed strawberries at Strawberry Fetish to crepes with full cheesecake slices inside. We’ll also explore some of the stores and all the adorable Merch, including a gachapon store filled with over a thousand mystery capsule machines. We’ll even check out some of the local fast food options including Japan-exclusive McDonalds menu items. And we’ll end the night at a delicious gyoza restaurant in Shinjuku, see some street magic and finally witness Godzilla blow fire above Hotel Gracery. Come with us on this adventure!
