Top generals of S. Korea, Germany discuss military cooperation
SEOUL, Sept. 10 (Yonhap) -- The top generals of South Korea and Germany on Tuesday discussed ways to expand bilateral military cooperation, the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.
In the meeting held at the JCS, Adm. Kim Myung-soo and his German counterpart, Carsten Breuer, also concurred on the need to broaden their cooperation for stability in the Indo-Pacific region, according to the South Korean military.
Kim congratulated Germany for joining the U.N. Command as a new member and thanked the country for its strict implementation of U.N. sanctions resolutions against North Korea, it added.
In August, Germany formally joined the multinational mechanism overseeing the armistice of the 1950-53 Korean War as the 18th official member state. It marked the first expansion of the multinational force in more than a decade.
Breuer is in Seoul to seek military cooperation and oversee operations of the German frigate Baden-Wurttemberg that made a port call in South Korea from Friday to Monday.
