[edit]

From i (masculine definite article) + në (from ne, first person plural pronoun). Compare jonë, from jo (original form of the feminine definite article, weakened to -a) + në. Old accusative form tënë from +në. Compare the accusative pronoun atë. Old dative-genitive masculine tinë from ti (today would've yielded ty, compare the possessive adjective for relatives tyt as in tyt vëllai and the dative pronoun atij. Old ablative masculine sinë from si (surviving in the antiquated pronoun asi) +në.
