Finnish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Finnic *tarkka. Related to Estonian tark, Veps tark and Votic tarkkõ. Possibly also related to Erzya тарка (tarka, “place”).[1]
Pronunciation
[edit]Adjective
[edit]tarkka (comparative tarkempi, superlative tarkin)
- accurate, exact, precise
- particular, pedantic, strict
- (in expressions) Synonym of täpärä (when used in the adessive or allative singular)
Usage notes
[edit]It is also possible to use täsmällinen for "precise", thus leaving tarkka for "accurate" (if a distinction should be made).
