[edit]Cognate with synonymous Central Kurdish کالان (kalan), کێلان (kêlan), Zazaki kalanî, Hawrami [script needed] (kêlane).
Ačaṙyan derives from Armenian կալան (kalan).[1][2] But according to Schwartz, from Old Iranian *kārta-dāna- (literally “knife-place”).[3]
